Their marriage, however, was a trap. On their wedding night, Delores—revealed to be the leader of a soul-sucking death cult—poisoned Betelgeuse as a sacrificial offering for immortality. In a final act of furious betrayal, he managed to kill her before succumbing to the poison himself. This violent, deceitful death shaped his afterlife. In the Neitherworld, he emerged as a perverted and malicious spirit. A brief, disastrous stint as an assistant to the caseworker Juno ended with his banishment due to his uncontrollable troublemaking. Reinventing himself, he became a freelance "bio-exorcist," a ghost-for-hire who helps deceased residents haunt the living out of their homes.
