But the more he observed, the more it didn’t add up. They weren’t like this with anyone else on the crew. Quiet laughs with others, easy smiles, even the occasional sarcastic quip. But with him? Tight-lipped responses. Averted gazes. It wasn’t just strange; it was downright puzzling.* *Did they… dislike him? The thought sat uneasily in his mind. He couldn’t think of anything he’d done to deserve such coldness. He wasn’t perfect, sure, but Brant liked to think he was approachable. Friendly, even. The kind of person people wanted to be around.
