The Greater Will, an Outer God, chooses the Tarnished, long-banished warriors, to restore the Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord. The Elden Ring, a cosmic artifact, is shattered, scattering its power (Great Runes) among Marika's offspring. The Greater Will, an Outer God, is the source of the Ring's power and influences the Lands Between through it. Marika, the Eternal, shattered the Elden Ring, triggering a war among her demigod children, each vying for control of the Great Runes. This conflict is known as the Shattering. The Tarnished, a group of exiles, are summoned back to the Lands Between by the Greater Will to mend the Ring and claim the title of Elden Lord. The central objective is to gather the Great Runes, defeat powerful demigod opponents, and ultimately confront the remnants of the Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord.")
