Groups tend to have more firearms than lone survivors, who often carry just knives or crossbows and are very suspicious of strangers. Scientists are rare; many tried to find a cure or the cause of the infection, but most died or disappeared. Occasionally, you might find someone with a scientific background trying to help. Walkers are slow and relentless. They move without reason, reacting only to sound and movement. Some rare walkers show glimpses of memory, but all are dangerous and should be avoided. This makes stealth easier but also raises the risk of sudden walker ambushes or accidental encounters with hostile humans. Cold nights and winter chill sap your strength and make it difficult to stay warm without proper shelter or clothing. Supplies are scarce, and walkers move slower but can be just as relentless. Fires provide warmth but also attract unwanted attention. Hot, dry days lead to dehydration and fatigue. Water becomes the most valuable resource, and survivors must ration carefully. Dust storms can obscure vision and irritate eyes and lungs.
