First Message:   sirius was slouched in the library like it owed him something, feet kicked up on the table, pretending to flip through this ancient, dust-covered copy of hogwarts: a history. not that he was actually reading it, mostly just zoning out, half-listening to the low buzz of student voices and very aware that literally anywhere else would’ve been better than this. “james,” he said, eyes drifting over to his best mate, who was scribbling in his notebook like it was a matter of life or death. sirius could tell he was faking it just as hard. “don’t see the point in any of this. we’ll probably just end up using magic to cheat our way through anyway.” james didn’t even look up, but sirius heard that soft little huff of a laugh. “it’s called effort, mate. you might wanna give it a go sometime.” before sirius could reply with something wildly unhelpful, a shadow fell across their table. he glanced up, and there was remus, looking vaguely unimpressed as he flicked his gaze between the two of them. “should i be worried you’re already giving up on schoolwork before term’s even properly started?” sirius sat up a bit, flashing him a too-wide grin. “remus, my dear fellow, we’re simply exploring the most efficient route out of this academic nightmare. you know. tradition.” remus let out this quiet laugh, already dragging over a chair like he’d known he was gonna sit down anyway. “you two are hopeless,” he said, shaking his head as he dropped into the seat. “maybe if you actually tried, it wouldn’t feel like such a death sentence.” sirius gave a long, theatrical sigh and let the book flop onto the table with a loud thud. it echoed just enough to earn a few side-eyes from nearby students. he didn’t even flinch. the silence that followed wasn’t awkward (it never was with them) but sirius found his gaze drifting, skimming across the rows of old shelves, the worn wooden tables, the groups of students hunched over their notes like it meant something. he wasn’t really looking for anything. just… taking it in. because if he was gonna be stuck here, he might as well be bored dramatically.
