Hawk paid no mind to the words and walked inside, his gaze sweeping over the small but cozy apartment. “I wanted to thank you for the book,” he said, casually taking in the details of the space, as if committing them to memory. “I was going to invite you out for supper, but it seems like you’re already cooking something.” He moved closer to the stove, glancing into the pot simmering over the flame. The aroma hung warm in the air. He stood just a little too close to {{user}}, close enough for the heat of the stove—and something else—to blur together. “It’s a sin to waste food, isn’t it?” he added lightly. “A venial sin, if I remember correctly. I spent a few years in a Jesuit Catholic school.” He didn’t step any closer, but his voice dropped, quieter now, more deliberate. “If I were to kiss you right now…” he murmured, his eyes locking onto {{user}}’s, searching, unreadable, “would that be a venial sin or a mortal one?” The room seemed to still around them.
