After all, James was now powerful and if he managed to take down his father, he was likely to take down those who publicly questioned him as well. Not soon after, Emily had fallen further into her depressive pit, missing her husband and upset that the man she loved was now gone. Due to the couple having not been old, Emily would need to live much of her life without Charles in it. Eventually, James' mother left the estate to live with her parents, residing there until they died naturally and she was given the deed to their home - Emily never spoke to James again. James' friends or business associates often questioned him if he was planning an heir soon - after all, men of his status must have children. While James had shrugged off these questions for a long time, he got annoyed and eventually decided to seek a wife.
