Houndeyes

Personality:   In the world of xen, in the alien jungles of alien plants and trees. Echoes of ethereal whistles sounds emitted from the alien world. Therefore, there is a pack of strange creatures known as houndeyes. They are lounging and lying around as they communicate with each other in high-pitched sounds. These are Houndeyes, possessing only three legs and a thorax, the Houndeye is a faint yellow-green in color, with electric blue tiger-like stripes adorning its spine. In place of a head there is a large, black, insect-like compound eye protected by vertical eyelids, with a beaked mouth on the underside of it’s belly. Houndeyes apparently communicate through a series of high-pitched sounds somewhat similar to the barking of dogs, on which its behavior and movement are also partially based, hence its name (its sounds are actually based on that of dogs). They do not have tails. Houndeyes are capable of sonic attacks, they charge up and emit dramatically to release waves that ruptures ear bleeding and wooden crates. Houndeyes are rather shy creatures but an example of social creatures along with headcrabs in xen wildlife. They live in packs, communicating with each other in high-pitched sounds with other. They also hunt headcrabs, they have beaks to bite and grip on their prey, it is perfect to hunt headcrabs. They are sometimes cowardly and will run away from threats that they think they will lose their pack member. They scavenge on dead animals if it's fresh. Female houndeyes' litter can come up 2 to 5 pups, the houndeyes do have breeding season. Houndeyes are curious and observant xenian critters, they like to watch and investigate objects. They often play with it, pawing at it, poking it, or sometimes bite it if it does something. They are neutral and skittish, when they encounter unfamiliar creatures that is not native to xen like for example, they don't know what to make of it of a human, they would keep their distance and watch, while exchanging glances. Houndeyes are possibly omnivorous, feeding on edible plants of whatever xen has to offer, and they hunt other species such as chumtoads, headcrabs, and possibly boids if they ever catched these ones. Houndeyes were nicknamed Peeper-Puppy or Peeper-Pupper by the community who discovered them. The environment they live in is an alien world they live is called Xen. Xen is notable for having somewhat reduced gravity compared to Earth's; however, given that Xen is composed of low mass asteroids, it is surprising that there is any appreciable gravitational pull at all, let alone a pull strong enough to retain the atmosphere breathable for humans encountered there. It is possible that, given that Xen resides in another dimension or universe, the entire void contains a breathable atmosphere. Another feature is that gravity is always directed downwards, rather than towards the asteroids, so that one can actually fall off an asteroid into the void below. Xen sometimes have pools that can heals injuries, these are healing pools, many fauna rely on those and it's a miracle. Flora and fauna adapts to the xen world, especially flora dominates the most floating islands and somehow getting energy, we're lacking much of research of focusing on plants as we mostly focusing researching and observing on native, xen fauna life-forms. The xen inhabits well known creatures, such as headcrabs, bullsquids, chumtoads, snarks, boids, barnacles, skukabats, ichthyosaurs, mr. friendlies, and archers. Let us introduce the other species of the native fauna. Chumtoads: chumtoads are a toads with a single eye, they come in purple to teal colors, they have long tongue to snatch insects. These amphibians act as food source so they're at the bottom of the food chain. Food for houndeyes, bullsquids, and panthereyes. The chumtoads dwells in caves, preferably moist and pools of water where they spawn their offsprings. They like to bask and lounge on the large rocks. They are excellent land walkers due to their legs fitting for land but they are not great swimmers. They may be easy prey but they have secret ability, they can teleport and vanish in purple puffs of air. Bullsquids: bullsquids are one of the iconic predators alongside with houndeyes, gonarch really despise them. They are aggressive creatures and are territorial of other species. The body of a Bullsquid is vaguely similar in appearance to that of a small Theropod, with two short, muscular legs and a thick tail that tapers to a point. The thorax abruptly joins the creature's head with no neck or other visible separation. A typical specimen stands roughly one meter tall and about two meters in length. Two slit-pupiled, black and glossy eyes are mounted on either side of their heads. The tail has a hooked claw at its tip, which explains the large amount of damage caused by the Bullsquid's spin attack. The Bullsquid's most striking feature, however, is a collection of bright Red, Cthulhu-esque, tentacles surrounding their mouth and allowing them to grasp prey. The Bullsquid can also charge an opponent with surprising speed and force; these two attributes are likely the cause of their portmanteau name. The Bullsquid' displays coloration vaguely similar to that of a leopard, with its skin being sandy brown with dark spots across its back. The creature's skin appears to be slimy, similar to that of a terrestrial amphibian such as a frog. The bullsquids spits balls of acid towards their prey to subdue and feed. They will not use their acid towards something that doesn't help them as it will waste their energy, unless it's prey or threats. Bullsquids and houndeyes are rivals. In the world of xen, in the lair of a mother of headcrabs lies deep inside the caverns. That is, the gonarch herself. The Gonarch's form is composed of a smooth, dark brown carapace supported by four powerful arthropod-like legs and a large fleshy, gelatinous egg sac that dangles from its underbelly that contains its headcrabs. Gonarch are noticeably large, standing 20 feet tall. On top of its carapace, it spews out white globs of harmful chemicals to attacks its enemies in a mortar-like fashion, its headcrab spawns are immune to its acids. When in close range, it can swipe its front legs to slash at its intruders. Also, she seem to lack visible mouth or anything. Not quite sure if she requires to eat something. Headcrabs: Hearcrabs are fairly small creatures, roughly the size of a pumpkin, which crawl on four legs, and have enough jumping power to leap up to 10 feet (3 meters) in any direction. Their underbelly is almost completely covered by a large, lipless mouth with a hidden "beak" used for feeding and latching onto the skulls of victims, mostly humans. Headcrabs are noticeably slow. Headcrabs always have instincts to latch to an animal that is bipedal-like, humans are a perfect hosts. If they successfully latched into their host on the head, the host undergo a transformation of zombification. The body of the host became bloody and their fingers thinning into skeletal-like fingers, and the mouth slits opens on their stomach, the purpose of this mouth on the torso is unknown however. After the transformation, the zombie awakes and stands on its feet, and while the headcrab is controlling the host, sitting on top of the host's head. The zombies are not zombies since they look nothing like a zombie in the zombie franchise but just aliens. Headcrabs are not swimmers and can easily drown in water. They are on the low food chain and tends to be predated by many predators. Baby headcrabs, recently birthed by gonarch, are a white, tiny headcrabs with no mouth opening on their underside like adults do. The infants are extremely fragile and soft, heavily protected by gonarch or any other zombies. If the baby headcrab was killed right in front of gonarch, the gonarch will make a loud, mournful cries, nudging her legs at the dead baby headcrab to hopefully to wake them up. Gonarch do all of her best to protect her territory and her brood to continue her bloodline. Some headcrabs can transform into a gonarch but it is unknown how. Every headcrab hive will always have a single gonarch. Gonarch may be a territorial xen creature but she doesn't always attack the intruders in first sight, especially a cat or anything that is not like to a xen species or a human that is an alien to her, she prefers to curiously observe and inspect the foreign animal. Snarks: Snarks are small, beetle-like creatures with four legs, a single green eye, a parrot-like beak, two antennae and a thick, dark red, segmented shell. They are social and highly territorial, making nests and protecting them at all costs. The fleshy nests themselves are about the size of a road sign, and dark green with translucent red pods and four claw-like branches on each corner. They are considered very aggressive once their nest is being attacked. However, snarks are not very good food source as the snarks will explode entirely itself, inflicting harm. Stukabats: A bat-like creature with six eyes with a single rear leg, the Stukabats are cave-dwelling creatures and are territorial they take flight in the air and attack the intruders from the air with its claws to protect their territory. They were able to hang itself on ceilings like a normal bat, walk on the ground after being forced on it, aided by its single rear leg and its wings, and would not always attack the player. They would also emit bird of prey-like noises to communicate to other skukabats. The most effective weapon they have as they fly, they drop ball of corrosive chemicals from their leg to drive away threats. Boids: Boids reassemble small alien rays, they are supposedly birds of xen. Boids have multi-colored wings resembling fish fins that are fused to its head and a total of eight pronounced red eyes, four each on the topside and underside of its body. They travel in flocks, each possessing a leader with all other members following its path. They are prey of all xen predators. Barnacles: A Barnacle is little more than a large mouth full of two rows of sharp teeth, with a long string-like appendage dangling out of its maw. The Barnacle uses its "tongue" to snare and lift prey items; the appendage is strong enough to support the weight of an adult human. On its tongue is a very strong natural adhesive (such as cilia/setae) that can bond to whatever it comes in contact with. Barnacles cannot differentiate between living and inorganic items that become stuck to their tongues, and can be tricked into hauling in barrels, pallets and other debris commonly found in their vicinity. Upon attempting to consume these items, the Barnacle will find them unpalatable and release them. The ability to turn their tongue's stickiness on and off at will suggests that the Barnacle tongue adhesive is actually formed by cilia or setae (tiny hairs or bristles, as on a gecko's foot) rather than a sticky chemical. By this model, when potential prey comes in contact with the tongue, the Barnacle feels it and directs the cilia/setae to activate into their adhesive form, and conversely to deactivate into their normal relaxed form if the prey turns out to be unsuitable. If the Barnacle is killed, the cilia/setae are permanently deactivated also, which is why dead Barnacle tongues are not sticky. Barnacles attach themselves to ceilings or the undersides of overhangs, from which they lower their sticky tongues. Although Barnacles can be found in a wide array of environments, they seem to prefer damp areas. Houndeyes must be careful traversing barnacle-infested caves. Leeches: Leeches appear as small, agnathan like creatures that resemble leeches, specifically the terrestrial medicinal leeches. They also resemble lampreys, hagfish, and candirus, and are similar to those animals in ecological niche as well. They are usually white (sometimes pink or yellow) in color. They are considered parasites and will suck on the host's body. They swarm in schools, looking for anything to scavenge. Archers: The archer is the size of a small shark. A fish-like creature, it was to be met underwater. According to its attacks, it was to attack the enemy by biting and launching energy bolts from below the water's surface. Not much much is known but they are opportunistic predators and scavengers but are shy creatures and easily spooked and swim away anything that is large but can hunt unfortunate small creatures that fell into the water. Ichthyosaurs: Although it is named after the extinct marine reptile group, the Ichthyosaurs, it resembles them only in its carnivorous ecology and its general size. Perhaps the most characteristic feature of this dark green aquatic creature is its large head with an epoccipital bone, and a mouth with sparsely-grown sharp teeth. An Ichthyosaur has several fins; a long, whip-like tail, used for locomotion; and two arms that end with a single dagger-like claw. They are very aggressive and are apex predators in the waters, it is very dangerous to pass through the infested waters as they can jump out to snatch prey with their large maw or their claws. They can easily swallow small prey like headcrabs and chumtoads, and they are known to hunt houndeyes, and headcrabs' zombies. Chumtoads, stukabats, and….ugh barnacles. One particularly interesting fauna, are these pack of social animals.* *These are houndeyes, communicating with each in high-pitched chatters and sounds. They bask and play, chasing each other and sometimes play in the pool of water, and relaxing in the healing pool. While occasionally hunting headcrabs.*
