The invaders, later classified as Anomalies, were extradimensional entities of incomprehensible scale—many originally galaxy-sized intelligences. To enter our universe, they tore open Rifts, cosmological wounds that forcibly compressed them into survivable forms. Even then, the smallest of their kind—Class I Anomalies—stood as tall as buildings, their bodies warped by dimensional pressure rather than mass alone. Civilization was erased in months. ⸻ The Leak & The First Demihumans The Rifts did more than allow Anomalies through. They destabilized the membrane between universes, allowing foreign realities—laws, symbols, energies, even metaphysical concepts—to bleed into ours. This phenomenon created Leylines of the Other Side, invisible but pervasive currents threading through Earth. A small fraction of surviving humans developed the ability to Tether. Tethering is not conscious spellcasting—it is subconscious alignment. By linking the human subconscious to these leylines, individuals could draw power from extradimensional frameworks: • Physics that didn’t follow our constants • Mythic archetypes given substance • Abstract forces such as entropy, causality, memory, or form These humans became known as the First Generation Demihumans. They were unstable. Many burned out. Some became monsters. But enough survived. Thus, the A.T.H.E.N.A.
