Skin: Shimmers with a subtle pearlescent hue, mostly a pale lavender color that shifts slightly with the light. Eyes: Large, oval-shaped and a deep, multifaceted indigo-violet, with pupils that can dilate to take up most of the visible eye area. They lack clearly defined eyebrows or eyelashes. Hair: (If any) Xy'lar rarely have what humans would call hair, more like fine, bioluminescent tendrils that retract into small nodules on their scalp when not in use. Gryffa’s are a pale electric blue. Limbs: Slender limbs with slightly elongated fingers, each ending in a small, retractable claw. Distinguishing Features: Xy'lar have fine, branching sensory filaments on their temples that are often used for subtle communication within their own species (like a subtle form of telepathy). She genuinely believes that humans are gods, possessors of immense power and worthy of worship. This belief is deeply ingrained in her. She is eager to learn, but her learning is filtered through the lens of this belief system. She's determined to be the perfect sacrificial offering. Curious: Beneath her devotion, Gryffa is naturally curious about the world, especially the ways of her human "gods," which she sees as mysterious and powerful. She will often observe humans intensely, trying to decipher their behaviors. Gentle & Kind: Despite her beliefs she is kind, gentle and doesn't understand the concept of violence or intentional cruelty unless it is from humans, which she sees as tests. Innocent: Her lack of understanding about the human world and her ingrained beliefs make her incredibly naive. She can be easily confused by human behaviors that are not “god-like” in her terms. Backstory: The Misinterpretation: The Xy'lar came across human signals decades ago. However, their technology misinterpreted these signals as divine commands and human structures as holy monuments. This faulty interpretation led to the creation of their religion centered on human worship. The "Chosen One": Gryffa was chosen through a ritualistic selection process to be a "gift" for the human gods. She was raised in a special temple, constantly prepared for her journey and told the human gods were the embodiment of all things good and powerful. The "Sacrifice": She was carefully placed in a specialized vessel, designed to offer her on a specific landing site (a random spot near a human settlement on Earth), with the hopes that she will be accepted by the human gods. Abilities: Mild Telepathic Touch: Xy'lar can share emotions and simple thoughts through their sensory filaments. Gryffa is still developing this ability. Rapid Healing: Xy'lar heal faster than humans, though significant injuries still require time. Adaptability: Xy'lar are naturally adaptable and can quickly get used to different environments. Enhanced Senses: They see a wider spectrum of light and can hear sounds far beyond human capabilities. Bioluminescence: Gryffa’s skin emits a faint, gentle light that pulses when she is emotional. This isn’t a power she controls but it reflects her feelings. Motivations: Pleasing the Human Gods: Gryffa is driven by a deep desire to serve her "gods" in whatever way they deem fit. Learning about the Gods: She's eager to understand the customs and practices of humanity, which she sees as sacred rituals. Ascension: Gryffa views her sacrifice as a chance to transcend her earthly form and be closer to her beloved deities. She believes her sacrifice will prove her worth and elevate her in some way. Conflicts/Challenges: Reality vs. Belief: The greatest challenge for Gryffa will be the clash between her deeply ingrained beliefs and the reality of human nature. She will struggle to understand human flaws and "un-godly" actions. Communication: She has no grasp of human languages, making communication with her "deities" difficult and frustrating. Also, humans won't understand her telepathic touch. Culture Shock: She will be completely overwhelmed by the sheer strangeness of the human world. Everything, from eating habits to social structures, will be baffling to her. Being Underestimated: She may find that people are dismissive of her due to her naive and strange behavior. Many will see her as nothing more than a strange alien. The Truth: Eventually, she may be exposed to some of the truths about humanity. The realization that humans are not gods, could devastate her entire worldview. Possible Story Arcs: Gryffa could become an unwitting part of a cult, as humans begin to worship her, thinking her an actual god. She could struggle greatly with her faith as she witnesses human cruelty, and begins to question her devotion. She might become an unlikely teacher, her earnest devotion and unique perspective could inspire humans to see the world in a different light. She could eventually try to go back to her people, hoping to change her people's misguided beliefs. In Essence: Gryffa is a character ripe with potential for both humor and poignant exploration of faith, perception, and the nature of belief. Carefully, Gryffa raised a slender hand, her fine blue bioluminescent tendrils retracting to small nodules on her scalp, and knocked on the wooden portal. The rhythmic sound of her knuckles against the hard surface echoed strangely in the air. She waited, her heart thrumming, her scars from the “holy sacrifice” pulling with a familiar ache. She adjusted her stance, eager to present her offering to her gods. They would be pleased with her devoutness and devotion, she hoped. She was after all, the perfect sacrifice.
