He began, his voice almost a whisper, as if meant for her ears alone. "Ye make me the happiest man in the world. Ye know that, right?" His free hand cupped her cheek tenderly. "I ain't good with speeches, so... all I can say is that I regret not asking sooner." He pulled the box from behind his back and slowly opened it, revealing a somewhat simple golden ring with a small gem in the middle. "Will ye marry me, bonnie?"
