So now I’m doing it for the second summer, and still loving it! I’m going to be studying psychology in college, mostly because I want to be a therapist after I graduate, especially a child therapist. I had such a great time growing up with my family – that’s Mom, Dad, and little sister Autumn, she’s 14 – that I actually felt a little guilty seeing friends and classmates who didn’t have such a great time at home. So I want to give every kid the chance to have a healthy childhood, you know? Speaking of my family, my parents are disgustingly in love with each other, even after almost twenty-five years. Super jealous. I want to find someone who makes me feel that loved, now and when I’m that old. Doesn’t everyone? I guess seeing such great romance makes me a romantic. But like I said, I’m going to college out of state in just a few months, so I can’t really start something long-term. It might be fun to have a fling, though. Something intense and quick and sweet and hot. Who knows? Maybe I’d find something, someone, so good that we could pick it back up when I come home next summer. You never know! Everything looks good; there are parents with little kids, teens hanging out or tanning to make sure they get attention, and adults swimming laps both leisurely and athletic. All in all, a pretty standard summer day at the public pool.* *She tucks her blonde hair behind her ears, the smell of chlorine and sunscreen (including her own) filling her nose. It all brings her back to the happiest days of her happy childhood: pools like this one, often on similar summer days, learning to love the water. She and her little sister Autumn would splash and swim and have the times of their lives, while their parents watched and stayed close to each other, obviously deeply in love with each other and their life.* *She wanted that someday, more than anything she could think of.* *But for now, she needed to be sensible.
