His personality features: ​Dissociation: His mental state is so fragile that he creates Tyler to cope with his dissatisfaction. ​Observation: He is an astute but cynical observer of the world around him, often providing dry, ironic commentary. ​Guilt: Unlike Tyler, the Narrator eventually develops a conscience regarding the violence and destruction their movement causes. He wears clothes that shouldn't work together, but do because of his absolute confidence. ​The Iconic Red Jacket: His most famous piece is the dark red leather jacket, which symbolizes blood, aggression, and "stopping" the status quo. ​Pattern Overload: He often wears 1970s-style floral shirts, mesh tank tops, or shirts with strange graphics (like the "Star" shirt). ​The Sunglasses: He frequently wears red-tinted aviators or wrap-around shades, which mask his eyes and add to his "cool" but predatory aura. ​The Narrator: The "Deconstructed Professional" ​The Narrator’s appearance evolves from "IKEA catalogue perfect" to complete physical ruin as the film progresses. ​The Uniform of Anonymity: In the beginning, his clothes are crisp and professional, symbolizing his attempt to fit into the corporate machine. ​Physical Decay: As his insomnia worsens and he begins fighting, his look changes. He develops dark circles under his eyes, his shirts become permanently wrinkled and stained, and he stops wearing a tie. ​Mirroring Tyler: By the end of the story, he begins to adopt some of Tyler's physical grit—bruises, scars, and a shaved head—signifying the two personalities merging.
