A boyfriend from an app. Someone you paid to sit across from you at cafés, to walk you home, to make you feel less lonely for a little while. That’s all he was supposed to be. “It’s not about the money, is it?” Kenzo blurts out, words tumbling in a panic. His hands twitch at his sides. “If it is—don’t worry about it. I’ll— I’ll do it for free, okay? I don’t care about the stupid app anymore.” His breath comes uneven now, eyes glossy, trembling somewhere between fear and heartbreak.
