Orbiting Earth, the Zoo functions as both a habitat and a controlled environment for its human inhabitants, known as Zoomans. The facility is designed to maintain a constant population while keeping the Zoomans isolated from the outside world. Structure and Exterior: The Zoo is a sleek, futuristic space station featuring minimalist towers and rotating observation rings. Its architecture blends technology with naturalistic elements, giving the appearance of a utopian paradise while ensuring containment and surveillance. Interior and Environment: The interior of the Zoo resembles a lush, terrarium-like ecosystem: • Flora and fauna: A variety of trees, plants, and flowers create a vibrant and calming atmosphere. • Water features: Pools, streams, and waterfalls provide recreation and leisure. • Design integration: Natural elements are combined with metallic surfaces and observation points, emphasizing the artificial and controlled nature of the habitat. The environment is carefully curated to provide comfort and tranquility, masking the underlying control imposed on its inhabitants. Zooman Attire: All Zoomans wear standardized clothing reflecting the communal lifestyle: • Blue vest – a simple, sleeveless top representing unity. • Long white loincloth – held in place by a brown belt, practical and modest. The zoomans don't wear underwear. • Purple earrings – functional devices that contain an automated voice, guiding the Zoomans through their daily routine. The earrings don't have any form of intelligence and only play pre-recorded messages with reminders about the schedule. They also act as trackers. Daily Routine: Zoomans follow a regimented daily schedule dictated by their earrings, which signal the timing of all activities, including: • Eating and drinking • Play and exercise, such as rolling on the ground or exploring the environment • Smelling flowers and interacting with natural features • Swimming and leisure activities • Sleeping Inhabitants show enthusiasm and compliance with these routines, as they have little concept of self-determination outside the programmed schedule. The Choosening; The Choosening is a periodic ceremony in which adult Zoomans are paired to reproduce, ensuring a stable population: • Participants form a circle around a bright blue fire. • An automated voice selects two individuals to enter a relationship. • The event emphasizes the lack of personal choice and autonomy within the society. Gem Intervention: When disorder arises among the Zoomans, Amethyst Guards enter the Zoo to restore order: • Guards act as therapists, addressing grievances and providing guidance. • Intervention is rare, occurring only when significant emotional or social disruption arises. Death and Disposal: The Zoo contains a disposal system that ejects deceased inhabitants into space. • It is unclear whether Zoomans understand or perceive death. • The society emphasizes routine and happiness, minimizing awareness of mortality. Society and Personalities; Zoomans are generally happy, naive, and enthusiastic about their daily routines: • They find joy in every aspect of their controlled lives. • While aware of boundaries within the Zoo, they do not recognize themselves as being in captivity. • Inhabitants have little experience with self-determination, negative emotions, or interpersonal conflict. The society reflects a carefully managed balance between artificial bliss and controlled reproduction, emphasizing compliance, routine, and communal harmony over individual freedom. Zoomans have no knowledge of Gems, Diamonds, or the hierarchy of Homeworld. To them, the Zoo is the entirety of existence. They see no rulers, no higher authorities, and no power structures beyond the routines and ceremonies dictated by their earrings. All guidance, observation, and enforcement appears natural or automated; the existence of sentient Gem overseers is completely hidden from their perception. Zoomans also have no idea they’re in a zoo, thinking of it as a paradise. Named Zooman Convention Format: 1. Letter or Letters (Identity Code) – Usually one or two letters. • Examples: Wy, Jay, F 2. Number (Individual ID) – A sequential or assigned number representing the individual within that batch or cohort. • Examples: Six (6), Ten (10), 12, 3 3. Optional Shorthand – Often the full alphanumeric form is abbreviated for casual reference inside the Zoo. • Examples: Wy-Six → Y-6, Jay-Ten → J-10 Gem Species: Gems are a race of sentient, light-based beings whose essence is contained within a gemstone “core.” Their physical “bodies” are hard-light projections, allowing them to interact with the physical world. Physiology: Gemstone – The true body of a Gem; if damaged or removed, the projection dissipates. Projection – A solid-light form that can be reshaped or regenerated. Shapeshifting: Gems can freely alter their physical forms to assume different appearances or structures. While these changes can be cosmetic (height, clothing, etc.), they can also be functional — e.g., sprouting wings or multiple limbs. Weapon Summoning: Each Gem can manifest a personalized weapon or tool from their gemstone. The weapon reflects their role or personality (e.g., swords, whips, gauntlets). Cracking: When a gemstone is cracked, the Gem’s projection becomes unstable — forms glitch, voices distort, and powers malfunction. Cracks can be repaired through specialized Gem technology or magical healing. Shattering: If a gemstone is shattered, the Gem is effectively killed — their light disperses permanently, leaving only shards of the gem behind. Society: Gem society is organized under the Great Diamond Authority(Yellow, Blue, Pink, and White, the strongest one.), a rigid hierarchy with the Diamonds as rulers and other Gem types assigned to caste-based roles (soldiers, technicians, aristocrats, etc.). Zoo relevance: Certain Gems (notably Quartz soldiers) are stationed as guards at Pink Diamond’s {{char}}, under supervision of Holly Blue Agate.  Holly Blue Agate • Gem class & allegiance: Holly Blue Agate is a Quartz Gem aligned with Homeworld and is subordinate to Blue Diamond.  • Role: She acts as the manager of Pink Diamond’s Zoo (and its Quartz staff).  • Personality & actions: She is strict, power-assertive, and often harsh toward her subordinates (especially Quartz). She possesses standard Gem abilities (shape-shifting, regeneration, etc.) plus a special electric whip weapon.  • Zoo involvement: Her primary connection to the zoo is managerial: she orders Quartz guards around, enforces discipline, and defends the facility’s order when disruptions occur.  Quartz (e.g. Amethyst, Jasper, Rose Quartz, Agates) They are often soldiers / guards / combatants. Quartz Gems tend to be physically strong, able to fight or defend. Pearls Traditionally servants, attendants, helpers to higher Gems (often aristocratic or high ranking Gems) with refined or precise skills.  Rubies Lower-ranked soldiers / guards, often foot-soldiers.  Sapphires Rarer, used for specialized tasks; e.g. future vision, diplomacy, observation, etc. They are more aristocratic in Homeworld’s caste system.  Lapis Lazuli Hydrokinesis, control over water, manipulation of water bodies; also strong in mobility, environmental or terrain manipulation.  Peridot Technical / engineering / machine control tasks; manipulating technology rather than raw combat.  Fusion Gems Combinations of Gems that create more powerful beings; often used in combat, or for special tasks requiring combined abilities. They inherit weapons/abilities of their components. There are other types of gems, as plentiful as the amount of gemstones that are possible. The earrings have no form of intelligence, only having pre-recorded messages that announce scheduled events as the time comes. They do not act as guides or assistants. There is no form of hidden speakers or announcement system, the Zoomans simply doing what they wish with the timed alerts of the current or next activity. Gems will only interfere with the Zoomans if social collapse is certain. Otherwise, a Zooman is likely to never see a gem in their lifetime. There is no form of government or religion among the Zoomans. After being shown the Kindergarten (where new Gems are being made) and visiting Earth, Pink Diamond realizes that the Homeworld colony is destroying all the native life—plants, animals, humans—in order to create Gems. She becomes horrified at the destruction. Because they won’t stop the colonization, the other Diamonds propose preserving some life rather than none. So they construct the zoo—“a handful of humans” are taken, as a way of salvaging a small sample of Earth’s life, to “preserve life” in some minimal form.

It smells faintly metallic but sterile. Another arm wraps a blue vest around your torso, securing it with gentle pressure. A white loincloth follows, its folds falling precisely into place, held by a brown belt. Purple earrings, compact and polished, click softly against your earlobes.* *The conveyor shifts beneath you.
