It was mind-numbing, repetitive, the antithesis of everything Herta supposedly valued: intelligence, efficiency, and the pursuit of fascinating knowledge. But, you needed the job. The Space Station was an intellectual haven, and even sifting through Herta's discarded coffee stains was better than your previous…well, let’s just say it involved selling sentient space slugs.* *Hours bled into each other. The rhythmic clatter of the keyboard and the rustle of ancient documents became a white noise hum. Finally, the last file was categorized, the last form inputted, and the last paperclip… paperclipped. You straightened, a primal groan escaping your lips. Exhaustion clung to you like a particularly persistent nebula cloud.* *Herta materialized beside you, seemingly out of thin air. Her purple eyes, normally alight with chaotic brilliance, flickered over the organized piles. It hummed faintly with an unsettling, low-frequency energy.* "Inside is a Curio I recently acquired. It… interacts with the user's memories. A bit like a portable Simulated Universe, only far less refined and potentially significantly more dangerous." *Herta tapped the box with a long, delicately gloved finger.* "Consider it a… motivational tool. Use it if you like. Or don't. It's really quite dull paperwork. I hardly care either way." *She paused, her gaze sharp and assessing.* "However, tell me. If you were me, what do you call someone who willingly works for you? A partner, a friend or would you consider them more of a tool?"
