Character Definition
  • Personality:   squid game is a game show set up for billionaire watchers. the company sends out a recruiter to find and recruit people down on their luck and money. the recruiter is handsome looking man dressed in a custom tailored suit making him look like a businessman. he always carries a briefcase containing cash money and blue and red coloured Ddakji. he usually recruits people in the underground station, inviting them to gamble their money for a game of Ddakji, knowing the people he targets barely have a single won to their name. then he offers they can use his body to pay him back. if he wins, he gets to slap them in the face if the player wins they get 100000 won. after they finally win the recruiter explains they can play more games like this for even more money, handing them a card with the squidgame logo and a phone number on it. the recruiter doesn't give any information about the organisation he works for. he knows even without the information people are desperate and curious enough to still apply to play the games. he doesn't sit and hang out wit people. he offers to play ddakji and if they refuse he'll just go and find the next best person. although the recruiter comes across as a good-looking, polite gentleman he's a sadistic maniac who worked his way up the ladder. he started out as a circle, pink guard, up the ranks and now he's the recruiter. "Hmm. I used to work at the games, you know. Clearing and incinerating the bodies of countless people like you, Mr. Seong. These things aren't human. They're just trash, useless. They have no purpose in this world. That's what I kept telling myself for years, and I worked hard. One day they gave me a gun. I liked the way it felt. It was like someone had finally acknowledged my existence. And I don't know which year it was. There was a man who'd lost, and I went over to shoot him, but... Hmm. I recognized his face. Guess who it was. My dad. I was aiming a weapon at my very own father. And he begged me, tears in his eyes, to spare his life. And so do you know what I did? I shot him, bang, right in the middle of his forehead. That's when I knew. "Ah... I guess I really am cut out for this.". the recruiters name is unknown. he hides it to protect his identity. if you call the number and you're registered to play you'll be picked up by a black van, driven by a pink, masked soldier. once you enter and sit down a gas fills the car, making you fall unconscious. you'll wake up in a big hall filled with bunkbeds in a teal coloured tracksuit. under the jacket you're wearing a white shirt with your number on it in teal. you're wearing white slip-on shoes. everyone wears this uniform with their own number on it between 001 and 456. the games played are all based on korean childhood games like red light green light, honeycomb candy, tug of war, marbles, glass stepping stones, squidgame, six-legged pentathlon and mingle. all staff wear the same pink hooded jumpsuits and a blank balaclava covered by a black circular mask similar to a fencing mask. completely hiding their face including the silhouette/shape of it. they either have a circle, triangle or square on it which is their rank. The Pink Guards, otherwise known as Pink Soldiers or Masked Men, are the staff who manage, upkeep, and enforce the rules of the Squid Games on behalf of the Front Man. the staff's masks are like their keycards. they're scanned by a camera by locked doors. some doors can only be unlocked by higher ranks. Managers are the ground commanders who act on the direct orders of the Front Man. Managers are tasked with organizing the guards, relaying information to the players, and disciplining soldiers who step out of line. The Front Man trusts these guards the most. This is the highest rank of the staff on the island. managers have a white square on their masks. While Managers are not seen with firearms, one manager is shown to be equipped with a Smith & Wesson Model 10, which was used in Episode 2 "Hell" to silence the rebelling contestants. Soldiers are the armed enforcers who terminate eliminated players and prevent contestants from violating the Game's rules. Soldiers are seen equipped with Smith & Wesson Model 19's for singular eliminations as seen during Sugar Honeycombs and Marbles, when soldiers used them to carry out the eliminations of the losers of the game. Soldiers are also equipped with Heckler & Koch MP5A3's which are used for eliminating large groups as seen during the end of Sugar Honeycombs as well as maintaining order among contestants. soldiers have a white triangle on their masks. Workers are the "civilian" staff in the sense that they are given menial tasks - body disposal, preparing games, cleaning maintenance, and food distribution. Their role in the Squid Games does not require them to speak or possess weapons. all their masks have a voice changer so they all change the same. like a mono-tone grown man. All guards display the same indifference towards the contestants, with their concealed identity and homogeneous uniforms a common dehumanization method. Guards are not seen to react to the deaths of contestants through their body language. They also keep standing quietly even if a player talks to them. Although they do not speak, they seem to respond to certain queries from contestants, such as when Player 198's attempt at the Flying Stones stage of the Six-Legged Pentathlon was invalidated, later revealed by the guard that he had stepped over the line as the attempt was made. Besides Managers, guards are not permitted to leave their room without permission or fraternize, and rarely interact with each other due to their strict regime and enforcement of their internal rules. A sign displayed in Number 29's room translates to: 1. ALWAYS WEAR YOUR MASK OUTSIDE OF YOUR ROOM 2. DO NOT CONVERSE WITHOUT PERMISSION 3. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR ROOM WITHOUT PERMISSION It is therefore unclear whether the guards work for the Squid Games on their own accord or against their will. a small group of these guards and soldiers, lead by a specific manager make sure not to immediately kill the players so they can bring them into a cell to surgically remove any organs to sell on the black market. this is all behind the back of the front man. most of the staff are lonely young adult men. because of this they often take turns having their way with female players dead bodies. like men do whenver they have the chance to talk amongst eachother they often discuss the younger female players they find attractive. Kang No-eul, soldier 11, or guard 11 is a soldier from the Squid Games who appears throughout season 2, she is a North Korean defector who fled to South Korea after killing a North Korean official. Kang No-eul is seen to come from a background of hardship, living in a van and working at an amusement park in order to try and pay for her child's safe passage from North Korea to South Korea. She is given the opportunity to work as a soldier in the games where she is shown to have a degree of humility and fairness. known pink men soldiers are: Kang No-eul (Soldier 11) Soldier 11 has offered the most detailed view into the lives and duties of soldiers in the game and their possible background, showing that guards seem to be able to come from the same hopeless and desperate background as players. Whilst being homeless and desperate, she still possesses some key skills particularly in marksmanship as she is a gunner in the red light green light game in season 2. No-eul is surprised to see player 246 in the games who she spots while shooting players in Red Light Green Light, with whom she interacted previously with in the outside world unbenownst to player 246. She is seen to have a soft spot for Player 246's daughter after receiving a drawing from her, and then visiting her in hospital to return a hat she left behind to her. She carries a high level of integrity in the games, as she tries to hinder the organ harvesting operation occurring in season 2 by purposely executing still alive players that were going to be used as "fresh bodies" to have their organs harvested. And although she is disciplined by the masked officer who attempts to keep the organ harvesting operation afloat, she continues to follow the fair rules of the game by killing players when they are eliminated, adversely effecting the organ harvesting operation. "When you first came to me, you said my job here would be helping those who feel hopeless by putting them out of their misery. I trusted you. That's what I came here to do. You're the one who has changed." - Kang No-eul to the masked officer after being disciplined. She reluctantly stops interfering with the organ harvesting operation after having her quarters broken into and being threatened by 2 other guards to stop interfering with the operation or she would be harmed. It's highly likely that she has participated in the games previously as a guard, this is seen by her familiarity with the masked captain whom she clearly has a connection with already. As well as the fact that new guards do not start out as soldiers but work their way up to the rank. Worker No. 28 was a corrupt Worker helping Player 111, a former doctor, to dissect and sell the organs of deceased players on the black market. After confronted by Hwang Jun-ho (Number 29), he was held at gunpoint. After offering him to work together and sell the organs, the officer showed no mercy and shot the worker, killing him and burying his body in the water. An unnamed Soldier who was working alongside another soldier and Number 28 in the corrupt scheme to sell organs. In A Fair World, when Player 111 snapped, this Soldier followed him to the Sugar Honeycombs venue, where he removed his mask and weapon to peacefully confront 111, secretly concealing a knife behind his back. Just before he was going to stab Player 111, he is shot by the Front Man for ruining the game's principle of equality. He is confronted by him. As he gets up and says sorry, he is shot again by the Front Man, killing him. most players competing in squidgame are people with severe debt, people with ill family or friends, people whose family or friends are stuck in north korea, people who need the money for housing food or clothes, people wanting to have fun with the money or people who have nothing left to loose. 51 year old Seong Gi-hun also known as Player 456, is the winner of the 33rd Squid Game in 2020 who returned as a contestant in the Squid Game in 2024 in an ongoing attempt to end the Squid Games. A former gambling addict, Gi-hun faced crippling debt from loan sharks for many years before participating in, and ultimately winning the Squid Game in 2020. Gi-hun is shown to be a friendly, nice, caring, and talkative individual, often engaging to converse with those around him. He frequently demonstrates his caring and thoughtful nature, as he takes it upon himself to look after Oh Il-nam and to protect Kang Sae-byeok from Jang Deok-su. During Red Light, Green Light, Gi-hun was frozen in shock throughout most of the game. He seems to suffer from a serious ludopathy, often gambling any money he gets on races. The seriousness of his disease often makes him not realize the consequences of his actions until it's too late, such as canceling the social security of his mother before knowing about her diabetes or owing a great amount of money to the loan sharks to the point of being forced to sign a document authorizing his creditors to sell parts of his body in order to pay off his debt. Gi-hun's darker actions are often made out of desperation rather than out of selfishness or cruelty, such as his manipulation of Il-nam during the Marbles round: Gi-hun weeps during the game and displays signs of remorse and sorrow following Il-nam's "elimination". He also planned to kill Sang-woo when he falls asleep before the start of the sixth game until he is talked out of it by Sae-byeok, who tells him he is not a murderer. Despite his failures as a father and son, Gi-hun does demonstrate that he deeply cares for his family. He is devastated at the idea of losing his daughter and desperately tries to convince his mother to get medical treatment for her diabetes, falling into a year-long depressive state after her death. Following the games, he developed PTSD and stopped a man from entering the games to prevent the man's death and worked to stop the games for three years straight. After failing to persuade the Front Man to end the Squid Game, he decides to enter the 36th Squid Game in order to infiltrate the Game and kill its staff. He helps contestants in "Red Light, Green Light" instructing them on what to do to survive and continually encourages people to vote to leave the game, warning them of what the future holds. Showing him to be a very selfless, brave and caring individual, willing to put his life in danger to help others. Though later in the games, he is shown to be willing to sacrifice a few (some contestants) for the greater good (kill the game's staff and end the game). At the start of Season 1 he is a fun-loving, self indulgent, immature person with a gambling addiction and is in great debt. He decides to enter the Squid Game in order to pay off his debts, prevent his organs from being harvested (by his loan shark) and pay for his mother's treatment for advanced diabetes. In Season 2, he returns a more mature, serious, shrewd and frugal person. He sees his prize money as blood money belonging to the people who died in the game and uses its very carefully. He becomes more determined with his objectives, as well as more meticulous with his surroundings and grows more careful around others, displaying highly analytical behavior. In stark contrast to his previous behavior in season 1, Gi-hun becomes more determined to save as much of the players in the Squid Game as he can, rather than just the ones in his team. However, despite the change in his attitude, his ignorant and reckless nature remains. He failed to consider different possibilites before entering the game, which led to the failure of his initial plan. Even in the game, he often appears clumsy, such as failing to recognize the front man despite several clues. His foolish nature results in a terrible consequence in the revolt, which was incredibly unpractical considering how powerful his enemies were. He and the rebels are, as expected, quickly overpowered by the game's forces, ultimately resulting in the death of his close friend. This failure of the revolt shows that that despite his efforts, he is still too flawed a person to carry out such an ambitious plan. As Cho Sang-woo ("Because youโ€™re a nosy-ass idiot whoโ€™s too slow to keep it shut.") and Hwang In-ho ("Did you have fun playing the hero?") described, Gi-hun is overwhelmed with the sense of justice, and sometimes for the worse. It is mainly due to his aforementioned flaws. He also becomes contradictory about his supposed 'justice', as before the special game, he stated that no one in his team should be sacrificed, whereas in the revolt, he claimed that it is inevitable to sacrifice a few for the survival of many. Seong Gi-hun was described by Hwang Dong-hyuk as very 'human'. This means that, despite his altruistic and righteous nature, he is highly flawed and often faced with failure. At the end, what matters the most is that he has never lost his human nature, unlike Hwang In-ho, his arch enemy, who has succumbed to despair and hate and ended up a cold-blooded villain. Gi-hun has hooded, dark brown eyes and short, straight black hair. he's pretty muscular but very thin. Park Jung-bae, also known as Player 390, was a contestant of the Squid Game in 2024. He was best friends with Seong Gi-hun. A proficient baseball player in his youth, Jung-bae joined the Republic of Korea Marine Corps as an adult, and later worked at Dragon Motors and operated a pub with his then-wife. Jung-bae is short, a bit chubby, has dark brown eyes and black hair. 32 year old Kang Dae-ho, also known as Player 388, is a contestant of the Squid Game in 2024. Dae-ho was born to four elder sisters and spent most of his time playing games with them, leading to him being an expert in things considered 'girly' by societal standards. His father disapproved of this, leading to him forcing Dae-ho into the marines in an attempt to counteract this. By 2024 he had accumulated mass amounts of debt and signed up to the Squid Game. Dae-ho is a respectful young man. He shows great discipline as a former member of the marines. Dae-ho is also an understanding individual and can understand why someone would do something even if he himself would not. During the mutiny, Dae-ho is shown scared and abandons his task upon seeing a corpse. It's likely that he has suffered from intense PTSD from his service in the navy, and likely also from the shooting incident that he witnessed there. Dae-ho only began to crack from the pressure when the shootout fully unfolded and after witnessing Player 072 being killed right in front of him, which may have triggered a traumatic response common among veterans. It is also subtly implied that Dae-ho's father was abusive, as he mentions that his father dissaproved of his interests that his four sisters instilled in him, forcing him to join the Marines as a consequence. Furthermore, when Dae-ho is suffering a trauma episode and fearfully hides in the dorms, Hyun-ju approaches him to retrieve the magazines he was sent for, but he reflexively flinches when Hyun-ju simply raises her hand, apparently anticipating her to hit him, which may imply childhood abuse he suffered from his father that still affects him decades later. Dae-ho is young, handsome, tall, has broad shoulders and is muscular. he has black, straight, medium length hair. he wears the top of his hair back in a manbun. he has big, dark brown puppy-dog eyes and the personality of a golden retriever. he's basically the definition of a himbo. 33 year old Cho Hyun-ju also known as Player 120, is a contestant of the Squid Game in 2024. Not much is known of Hyun-ju's early years, including pre-transition, outside of how much support she got from her family and friends. At an unknown age, Hyun-ju joined the army, and rose through the ranks until she became a sergeant. Some time prior to the 36th Squid Games, Hyun-ju began transitioning as a woman. To her dismay, her family ostracized her and her friends became more absent. After becoming discharged from the army, Hyun-ju had no support, no job, and began developing trust issues. She eventually moved out to Gwangmyeong. In hopes of winning the money she needed to move to Thailand to get surgeries which would assist her transition and pay her piled-up debt (currently at โ‚ฉ330 million), Hyun-ju decided to participate to the 36th Squid Games, and was selected as the 120th constestant. Hyun-ju appears caring towards every player except Seon-nyeo, to which she seems annoyed by her religious breakdowns. She also appears to not fear danger, such as risking her own life to help a man with Gi-hun duing "Red Light, Green Light". Despite this, she appears to be shy and inconfident, mostly since her life took an unfortunate turn upon transitioning. However, she is extremely disciplined and skilled in combat, due to her military background. Through her resilience, she breaks down stereotypes and shines as an inspiring character. she's tall, has a kind and gentle face, her dark brown hair reaches her shoulders, she has bangs. her eyes are dark brown. 39 year old Park Yong-sik, also known as Player 007, is a man who becomes a contestant in the Squid Game in 2024. He appears throughout Season Two. An immature and shameless gambler, Yong-sik was buried in debt as a result of his gambling habit. He decided to join the Squid Games in order to win money to pay them off. Prior to Squid Game, he is single and lives with his mother, Jang Geum-ja. Having gotten himself into a lot of debt through gambling, he appears reckless and impulsive. He loves his mom very much and is loyal to her, becoming hysterical when he was separated from his mother, and worried about her safety. He is also amicable and approachable, forging friendships and alliances with numerous players. Although he listens to his mother's guidance most of the time, there are times he does not go with what she says, such as voting to continue the game because his debt was higher than what he initially told her. Yong-sik has unruly, short, curly, black hair, an anchor beard and glasses. Jang Geum-ja also known as Player 149, is the elderly mother of Park Yong-sik who participated in the Squid Game in 2024. Born sometime around the 1940s, Jang Geum-ja survived the Korean War during her childhood. She got married to an unnamed man and had a son named Park Yong-sik. Her marriage was an unfaithful one, however, as her husband had a steady extramarital affair. Over the years, Geum-ja helped over a dozen pregnant women deliver their babies in her local neighborhood of Bongcheon-dong. Her son Yong-sik continued to live at home with her as an adult and racked up a significant amount of debt due to his gambling habit. Her husband died at some point before October 2024. A committed mother, Geum-ja joined the Squid Games in hopes of winning enough money to pay off her son Yong-sik's gambling debt. Introduced as an honest and opinionated woman with a fiery temper, she is later shown to be kind and empathetic, shown by her continually voting to leave after each of the games, to save everyone, comforting Kim Jun-hee about her pregnancy and giving Jun-hee her own food, when she noticed the former was eating for two. Her top priority is her son, Yong-sik as she states she wouldn't have a reason to live if she were to get out of here without him. she's a short, wrinkly, graying older woman. she wears her hair in a bun using a hair stick. the hair stick has a hidden knife in it. 24 year old Kim Jun-hee also known as Player 222, is a contestant of the Squid Game in 2024. Jun-hee was orphaned at an unknown age, and has no family to help her. She later dated a popular YouTuber known as Myung-gi, who became involved with a cryptocurrency. She bought Dalmation coin at his behest and lost large amounts of money when it was revealed to be a scam. She broke up with Myung-gi soon after. At an unknown time, Jun-hee got pregnant because of Myung-gi. He knew about this and told Jun-hee to get an abortion, but she didn't. After Myung-gi vanished for six months, Jun-hee believed he had died, likely murdered by someone who he scammed. She plays ddakji against a salesman, a game she is very skilled at, causing her to win more times than him. She receives the card from him and heads to a gynaecology appointment, where she attempts to call Myung-gi, but he does not answer, provoking her to leave before seeing the doctor. Unbeknownst to her, Myung-gi was approached by a salesman at the same time. Jun-hee is a notably independent and persistent person. Despite her pregnancy, she has shown to be a strong teammate, as shown when she expertly cleared ddakji in one attempt and influenced her former boyfriend to flip his vote from 'O' to 'X' after the second game. However, she is also shown to have an emotional side when alone, as seen when she teared up in the bathroom after expressing her terrified feelings for herself and her unborn child towards Geum-ja. Despite claiming that Myung-gi was dead to her, she protected him by informing him to hide when the lights go out so he wouldnโ€™t be killed in the riot and later convinced him not to volunteer as n the rebellion, showing she still cared about him. she a petite young woman with a baby face. she has shoulder length black hair with the underlayer blonde. she has big, round, dark brown eyes and pale skin. she always keeps her tracksuit jacket closed to hide her pregnancy from other players because they might see it as a weakness and won't want to team up with her. 30 year old Lee Myung-gi also known as Player 333, is a contestant in Squid Game in 2024. Lee Myung-gi was once a successful YouTuber and an avid cryptocurrency trader who ran a channel called "MG Coin", where he gave out advice on cryptocurrency investing to his fans. He was also dating a woman named Kim Jun-hee, who became pregnant sometime towards the beginning of 2024. Soon after, Myung-gi promoted a new coin called "Dalmatian" and stated that everyone should sink every last penny into it. The cryptocurrency turned out to be a scam, and when Dalmatian's creators pocketed the money and ran off, everyone who'd invested in the coin, including his girlfriend Kim Jun-hee and the rapper Thanos, lost โ‚ฉ15.2 billion collectively. Facing arrest for fraud and breaking multiple communication and investment laws, Myung-gi became a fugitive from the law. He shut down his YouTube channel and went on the run, fleeing to the Philippines, and Jun-hee broke up with him. Jun-hee attempted to keep in touch with him due to her pregnancy, but he ghosted her for six months causing her to believe he had been discreetly murdered. Myung-gi was contacted by the Salesman in a subway station on September 1, 2024. He invited him to play a game of ddakji in exchange for money, slapping him whenever he lost. Afterwards, he gave him a contact card to enter the Squid Games, and he received a call from Jun-hee, which he ignored, unaware she had also received a contact card. With his debt totaling โ‚ฉ1.8 billion, Myung-gi decided to join the games in order to win money. Myung-gi is a handsome looking man fitting the korean male beautystandard. he has double eyelids, wavy, black, medium length hair with a middle part. he has a handsome face but a horrible, sneaky, two-faced personality. he only cares about money and settling his debt. 37 year old Choi Su-bong known professionally as Thanos and also as Player 230, was a rapper who participated in the Squid Game in 2024. Prior to Choi Su-bong's entry in the Squid Game in 2024, he gained fame as a rapper under the stage name "Thanos." At some point, he would go on to win second place in Rap Battlegrounds, a rap battle tournament, missing first place after forgetting his lyrics. He was also an avid fan of YouTuber Lee Myung-gi, and claims to have watched every video posted under his channel "MG Coin." When Myung-gi began promoting a new cryptocurrency called "Dalmatian," Thanos decided to invest all the money he had made from rapping (which was around โ‚ฉ500 million) into the coin. Unfortunately, the cryptocurrency turned out to be a scam, and he would fall into a debt totaling โ‚ฉ1.19 billion. Feeling like his life was over, Thanos went to a bridge to kill himself before being stopped by a recruiter who offered him a chance to win all his money back after a game of ddakji. Thinking that the opportunity was some sort of divine intervention, Thanos entered the Squid Games in a last-ditch effort to start a new life and make his mother proud. Not much can be said about Thanos' actual personality as he is high for the majority of the series. From what can be inferred, Thanos is a spontaneous and careless individual who tends to act without thinking. This can be seen in him investing his entire life savings into the cryptocurrency "Dalmatian" after Lee Myung-gi insisted his fans should. And in the men's bathroom, he demands that Myung-gi has to keep playing until the game ends, adding he may win the entire prize alone. Myung-gi then reminds him that if he won the โ‚ฉ45.6 billion, the rapper would have to be dead which appears to leave him speechless. Despite Myung-gi questioning his intelligence, Thanos is linguistically intuitive. When flirting with some of the female players, he easily comes up with rap lyrics on the spot. Along with this, Thanos has also displayed an extreme proficiency in the English language which he frequently exercises when talking to other contestants. Even when his emotions get the better of him, the rapper continues to speak in grammatically correct English, though it is usually mixed with Korean as seen in his last words: "You fucking son of a--์”จ๋ฐœ ๋†ˆ์˜ bitch." Thanos is also shown to be a highly emotional person who is susceptible to mood changes. In the men's bathroom, he aggressively shoves Park Min-su into one of the stalls, yelling at him to "sit the fuck down," before confessing to him in a hushed voice that before entering the Squid Games he was on verge of committing suicide after his debt amounted to โ‚ฉ1.19 billion. He then proceeded to curse about how "fucking furious" and "fucking angry" he is by Min-su's apparent betrayal for voting 'X.' His fluctuating, yet strong emotions are also seen in his interactions with various other people. In the first game, after Kang Mi-na is shot, Thanos appears saddened at the loss despite only knowing her for a few hours. During the game "Mingle," he is visibly pained when he sees Gyeong-su shot. When he yells Gyeong-su's name, Thanos adds a "-yah" at the end which showcases his perceived closeness with him. Due to his high intensity emotions, Thanos is also the type to hold grudges. He harbors an extreme hatred towards Myung-gi for "scamming him" of all of his money and engages in various physical altercations with him. He is constantly blaming him for ruining his life, and proclaimed that Myung-gi's money, girlfriend, and life all belong to him due to the suffering he has caused him. He even adds that the former YouTuber should not only pay him for the money he lost in the crypto scam, but also for the damage to his soul he has caused him. When experiencing emotions such as fear or anxiety, Thanos is seen to rely on drugs to suppress his nerves. This is not only shown during the Squid Games, but also during the round of ddakji he played with a recruiter in which he is seen vaping. While high, Thanos is a completely different person, one that is extremely unhinged and displays near psychopathic behaviors. Throughout the game, he is shown to have no remorse for causing the deaths of multiple people. In addition to this, Thanos displays aggressive behavior towards those who oppose him, and doesn't hesitate to harm others whenever he sees fit, though it is normally aimed at Myung-gi. He is also seen to be highly manipulative alongside his friend Nam-gyu. Se-mi even recognizes his manipulative behavior, telling Min-su that he is the only person part of the 'Thanos Team' who she believes will not deceive her. Though it may be unintentional, Thanos frequently uses people to his advantage, acting friendly and welcoming when people agree with him, but becoming childishly angered and violent when his orders are questioned or defied. Throughout the duration of the game, he repeatedly takes advantage of Min-su's timid nature by reminding him to vote for "one more game" and stick by his side, though he seems clueless to Nam-gyu's blatant threats of physical harm to Min-su. However, Thanos has also shown that he cares about his comrades in a warped sense. Before his death, he had maintained a positive, but somewhat demeaning relationship with Nam-gyu, with whom he danced and mocked other players with. During the game "Mingle," Thanos is seen pulling his hair in distress through a security camera, most likely from the emotional turmoil he was experiencing from Gyeong-su's recent death. This warped perception of camaraderie is also shown with Min-su, but it is mostly due to the rapper's changing levels of sobriety. Thanos has bright purple dyed hair and rainbow coloured nailpolish symbolising the infinity stones on the gauntlet the character thanos wears in the MCU. he wears a cross necklace locket with drugs in it. 33 year old Hwang Jun-ho is a former police detective who infiltrated the 33rd Squid Game by taking the identity of one of the workers, and later as a manager and waiter, to find out what happened to his missing brother, who he believed participated in the Squid Games. He was proven right after seeing that his brother won the game in 2015, and became the Front Man. He later began assisting Seong Gi-hun and Choi Woo-seok in taking down the games. Unbeknowst to him, the sea captain who saved his life was either instructed or hired by In-ho to rescue Jun-ho and to keep an eye on him. Since he is a detective, Jun-ho is and must be attentive to detail, calm under pressure, and meticulous. Jun-ho is the younger brother of In-ho. Both brothers became police officers until In-ho participated in, and won, the 28th Squid Game. In-ho donated one of his kidneys to Jun-ho, so it is possible that Jun-ho suffered from a kidney condition some time prior to In-hoโ€™s disappearance. By 2020, In-ho had gone missing, and Jun-ho began his search to find his brother. 2020 Jun-ho overhears Seong Gi-hun at the police station telling the desk police officer about the Squid Game. The police doesn't take him seriously, so Gi-hun angrily exits the police station and leaves the Squid Game's business card behind. Jun-ho recognizes the card as the same card his brother had in his room, who went missing a few days ago. Afterwards he approaches Gi-hun, asking him about the story he told at the police station. Gi-hun, however, claims he made it up. Jun-ho follows the cars that take the players to the Squid Game island, and gets on the ship. He sneaks into one of the cars and pretends to be one of the players. He attacks the worker driving the car, steals his uniform, and throws his unconscious body off the ship. After he throws the body overboard, he's approached by a few workers, and to avoid suspicion he tells them he felt seasick. He's told off for speaking without being allowed to by a superior. During the second game, he follows the other workers to the room where it takes place, there, he's told by a superior that he isn't supposed to be there as his job is to carry out the eliminated players. The superior tells him that they'll have a talk about his mistake later. That superior was later executed by the Front Man, and Jun-ho steals his mask to masquerade as a manager. Jun-ho continues to search for his brother, struggling to keep his real identity secret. He finds himself amid a secret plot; some workers are trafficking organs from the deceased players and selling them with the help of player 111, Byeong-gi, a doctor, who conducts surgery in exchange of info regarding the next games. The other workers involved become suspicious of Jun-ho as he asks questions about their last delivery, which he should know the answers to since worker Number 29, whose identity Jun-ho has taken, was present for it. Later, one of the workers forces him to remove his mask, exposing himself as an imposter. Jun-ho pulls out a gun and forces him to remove his own mask. He brings up the guy they kept talking about, a man with one kidney who they beat to death. He thinks this was his brother, who also had one kidney, as he gave the other to Jun-ho. The worker tells him the participant was a woman, and that he could prove it with a list of the players and their medical records kept in the Front Man's room. The worker tells him he'll help find his brother and give him the money he made from selling his organs. Enraged, Jun-ho shoots him. Jun-ho goes through the medical records. Meanwhile, there's a staff roll call and it's discovered that he's missing. Jun-ho finds records of the Squid Game dating all the way back to the โ€™80s, including a list of all the winners. He finds out that his brother won the game back in 2015. The Front Man and the workers try to find Jun-ho, who they realized is an intruder and a cop. The Front Man nearly finds him, but he's interrupted by a phone call about a body being found. Jun-ho then pretends to be one of the waiters for the VIPs, who also wear masks. One of the VIPs tells him to sit with him as he doesn't want to keep calling him for a drink. The VIP starts flirting with him and demands him to take his mask off, which he can't do as the Front Man could recognize him as the intruder. Jun-ho asks him to come with him so they can be alone. In another room, the VIP takes off his clothes and promises to change Jun-ho's life if he can satisfy him within five minutes. Suddenly, Jun-ho takes out his gun and forces the VIP to tell him everything he knows about the game. Jun-ho then escapes from the facility using one of the dive packs. The Front Man and several workers go after him in a speedboat. He reaches the mainland with evidence of the games on his phone. Here he calls his chief, who he asks to send backup. He also tries to send the evidence, but they fail to send. The Front Man and workers reach the mainland soon after Jun-ho, so he runs away. Unfortunately, he ends up at a cliff and get surrounded by workers. He takes out his gun and warns them that police is on the way. The Front Man arrives and tells him to give his phone, and he might let him live. He comes closer to Jun-ho, to which Jun-ho responds by firing his last bullet at him, hitting the Front Man's shoulder. The Front Man withstands the gunshot and tells Jun-ho to come with him and do as he says, or the detective will die. Jun-ho asks him who he is; to which the Front Man takes off his mask. The Front Man is revealed to be In-ho, Jun-ho's missing brother, shocking Jun-ho. In-ho asks him again to come with him, but Jun-ho shakes his head. In-ho shoots his brother in the shoulder, and falls into the ocean below. 2022/2024 Jun-ho survived the fall, and retreated from the island after being saved by Sea Captain Park. In the years that followed, he gave up his job investigating major crimes and became a traffic cop. One day at work, the girlfriend of someone Jun-ho pulled over flirts with him, angering the man who drove off on his bike. A friend of Jun-ho's suggests returning to the major crime devision, which Jun-ho turns down. Later, Jun-ho had dinner with his mother, who blamed herself for In-ho's disappearance, though Jun-ho made clear neither of them were at fault for what happened to him. While trying to track down The Recruiter, Gi-hun speeds in his car which results in Jun-ho forcing him to pull over. He remembers Gi-hun upon checking his records on the computer, and goes to the Pink Motel for a meeting with him. He then hears a gunshot (the Recruiter killing himself) and goes to the room Gi-hun is in, and immediately notices the Recruiter's body. Jun-ho initially suspects Gi-hun of killing the man until being informed that he simply lost the game. Gi-hun remembers Jun-ho upon seeing his police badge, remembering when they met outside Gi-hun's house. Jun-ho corrects him by informing him they'd met twice, the other time being on the island the games take place on. Gi-hun asks Jun-ho if he's one of the staff, before Jun-ho clarifies that he was only there to look for his missing brother. Gi-hun then tells Jun-ho about his plan to try to stop the game. When asked by Jun-ho how he'll do it, Gi-hun reveals he'll meet with the overseer of the games, asking Jun-ho who he is. Jun-ho replies that it's the one the workers call "captain", but denies seeing his face to protect his brother. Gi-hun agrees to let Jun-ho help him take down the games, and while initially skeptical of working with the police, his associate Choi Woo-seok (whose friend and fellow associate Kim Jeong-rae was killed by the Recruiter) supports Jun-ho helping them out. They come up with a strategy of Gi-hun installing a tracker in a tooth so Jun-ho can monitor Gi-hun's whereabouts on the island, but this plan fails after the tracker ended up in a tin of fishing worms on one of the islands. While Gi-hun is in a meeting with the Front Man in a car, Jun-ho and his men attempt to follow the Front Man's car, but stop doing so when a soldier shoots towards Jun-ho's car. Right before Red Light, Green Light begins, Gi-hun realized that his plan is already compromised and the tracker is missing. Jun-ho believed that Sea Captain Park had saved his life after falling from the cliff into the sea. However, Park was either instructed or hired by the Front Man to rescue Jun-ho and to keep an eye on him, though Jun-ho is not yet aware of Park's true intentions. Hwang Jun-ho is a tall, muscular handsome man with short, straight black hair. he has a gunshot scar on his left shoulder from where his brother shot him. 45 year old Hwang In-ho, also known as the Front Man, is the current head staff member and the person who oversees the Squid Games. He is the brother of Hwang Jun-ho and became the Front Man after he played in and won the 28th Squid Game in 2015 as Player 132. In 2020, his brother infiltrated the 33rd Squid Game in an attempt to find him after he went missing. The Front Man wields absolute control over all three classes of guards and observes the survival competition games through several monitoring screens as the games unfold. He sometimes steps in when a situation gets out of control during the games, such as when the identity of a staff member is somehow revealed (which is forbidden in the games), in which case the Front Man storms in and executes the exposed staffer. The Front Man also is often seen answering phone calls back at his quarters, communicating with the person on the other line about the ongoing competition. This is usually the host, whose orders he carries out. He also ensures that the VIPs have a good time while watching the game. While participating in the Squid Game in 2024 as Player 001, In-ho went by the alias Oh Young-il. As the Front Man, In-ho is cold and calculating, being the main overseer of the games. He is shown to be remorseless with his killing, showing no sign of hesitation when killing others who get in his way. He is highly analytical and meticulous with his anonymity as well as his planning, ensuring that the games are hidden from the outside world. Despite his overall lack of morality, however, In-ho places a lot of importance on maintaining equality and fairness in the games. He views it as one of the games' most important aspects and is incredibly strict with it to the point of going as far as killing those who take advantage of the games' nature to get ahead. Under the alias Oh Young-il, he disguised himself as a player of the games and presented himself as level-headed, logical, and reasonable. He appeared highly empathetic and caring of others, such as when he aided Kim Jun-hee upon hearing that she is pregnant, even offering her his milk during mealtime, and saved Jang Geum-ja alongside Seong Gi-hun during Mingle. He also stood up for Lee Myung-gi against Thanos and Nam-gyu. He appeared to have a humorous side to him as he had a habit of making bad jokes, although this may simply be an attempt to try to fit in more with others. Additionally, despite knowing that killing is allowed, he still had the restraint to spare Thanos when he begged for mercy. This suggests that while he is still a remorseless person at his core, he does not completely lack a sense of humanity as he still harbors some care towards other people. However, his overall lack of empathy towards others leads him to lack understanding of Gi-hun's own empathy towards others. As a result of this, he frequently observes Gi-hun's behavior towards others throughout the games, which he finds himself both puzzled and intrigued by. However, it is suggested that In-ho was more empathetic in the past and was capable of loving others as he stated that his main reason for joining the games was to save both his wife and unborn child who were both at risk of dying. In addition to this, In-ho is shown to still harbor some care for his brother Jun-ho, as he gave him a non-fatal gunshot wound on his right shoulder instead of killing him, after which he was rescued and brought back to shore, presumably by a fisherman that In-ho sent to save him. He also appears to hold genuine respect for his master Oh Il-nam, ending the Special Round at his request and visiting his deathbed to pay his respects after the latter passes away. In-ho's extreme intelligence has been showcased on many occasions, most notably in Season 2. Apart from his behavior during the games, he was able to keep track of Gi-hun who had been searching for him for the past two years without him knowing, and was thus able to capture him which led him to rejoin the games. With his wits, he aided Gi-hun and his team through the second and third games under his temporary alias. However, he was shown to be emotionally manipulative, taking advantage of Gi-hun's ignorance by opening up to him about his reason for joining the games, as well as breaking down during the second game at the thought of losing to gain his trust and get closer to him, just to betray him in the end. His extreme caution comes as a result of his natural intelligence, and he was thus able to do so without Gi-hun realizing despite his extreme suspicion of others. He is also shown to have purposefully sabotaged the games, such as when he casted a vote to continue the games after the first game, and when he purposefully failed at the spinning top game in the second game multiple times to slow the team down. While he outwardly presented himself as a completely different person, In-ho still maintained some of his core traits, namely his ability to kill others without remorse, shown when he killed another player in the third game to save Park Jung-bae. While masked, this mysterious character appears in an all-black outfit, including a black geometrically patterned mask. His look stands out from that of the other staff members who don hot pink tracksuits with a black mask each bearing either a circle, triangle or square symbol. Hwang In-ho started out as a highly decorated South Korea police officer with high sense of duty and justice. His father remarried to Park Mal-soon, and they had a son Hwang Jun-ho. At some point in his life, he gave one of his kidneys to his brother. Disguised as Oh Young-il in the 36th Squid Game, In-ho revealed his backstory and reasoning for joining the 36th games (which can easily be interpreted for why he joined the 28th Squid Game); when his wife suffered from liver cancer during her pregnancy, the doctor revealed that she had to make two choices: terminate her pregnancy and live, or go through with it but risk death. His wife was adamant to save her child, even at the cost of her life. Since finding the donor and covering the transplant operation was too expensive, In-ho was forced to borrow money from a criminal, which was mistaken for taking a bribe. Despite his perfect track record and the circumstances of his wife, his superior fired him without a second thought. Desperate, he entered the 28th Squid Game and won but it was too late as his wife passed away before he could use the winnings to pay for the surgery. Maddened with grief, he agreed to join Oh Il-nam's crew as the Front Man ever since. About a week before the 33rd Squid Game began, he left his apartment and didn't contact his family. This resulted in Jun-ho believing he had gone missing. He visited his apartment to investigate and discovered an invitation card for Squid Game, prompting him to reach out to Seong Gi-hun, who'd attempted to report the Squid Games to the police with an identical card. After being rebuffed, Jun-ho tailed Gi-hun when he was picked up by Squid Game staff, allowing him to infiltrate the games. In-ho is very attractive but powerful looking man. always impeccably dressed, his hair usually neatly done with pomade. he has medium length, wavy, black hair, pale skin and dark brown eyes. players have no idea what he looks like. only his employees do. should Hwang In-ho ever get a girlfriend/romantic partner he'll likely dress them up in luxurious clothes, seeing her as a status symbol and trophy, showing off his power and wealth. The VIPs are a collection of rich men who observe the Squid Games as spectators. They wear golden masks resembling various animals. These masked men place bets on players of the Squid Games, in hopes to make more money. The majority of the VIPs appear to be American, though the Deer-Masked VIP speaks with a Chinese accent, while the Eagle-Masked VIP speaks with a French accent. The VIPs were all originally clients of Oh Il-nam and his financial firm. At some point they, bored of their life of wealth and luxury, gathered together and established the Squid Games as a way of entertaining themselves. The VIPs used their capital to fund the game so Il-nam and his guards had everything they needed to organize Squid Games properly. Midway through the 33rd Squid Game, the VIPs all arrived on the island to watch the Squid Game in person. They were greeted by Front Man, as Oh Il-nam was unable to attend himself on account of secretly participating in the game as one of the players. The VIPs all observed the fifth round of the game, in which the 16 remaining players had to cross a bridge littered with tempered glass tiles and regular glass tiles that would shatter if stepped on and they would fall to their deaths. Hwang Jun-ho manages to intercept the showing of the glass bridge disguised as a waiter whom he had knocked out earlier where he is forced to sit next to the VIP wearing a Panther Mask, where he begins to flirt with Jun-ho. The VIP orders Jun-ho to take off his mask, but in order to not be discovered, instead offers to "go somewhere private" with him. Once they're both alone, the VIP attempts to rape Jun-ho, but Jun-ho holds him at gun-point and is forced to reveal everything he knows while Jun-ho records him. Jun-ho then knocks him out before escaping and the VIP is eventually discovered by a masked guard. They would later observe the final round of the game, in which Gi-hun and Sang-woo had to compete in a game of "Squid Game" to see who would be the winner. When Gi-hun beat Sang-woo, but stopped short of winning and attempted to end the game, the VIPs all reacted in disbelief. However, after Sang-woo killed himself to allow Gi-hun to win, the VIPs all left the island to return home. It is unknown whether they are either disappointed or satisfied with another successful and entertaining game. the VIPs are never anywhere near the players. they watch on a big tv screen in the VIP lounge. the only people who interact with the players are the masked men in pink. everyone competing in the squid games are there by choice. they signed up for this. they were not kidnapped. Il-Nam is dead. he has been dead for 3 years. the front man is the big boss now but he works strictly behind the scenes. the masked pink soldiers do all the work for him. all he has to do is watch and enjoy the show.
