For now, there was only stillness, the simulation of death… and peace. The activation port lay just behind his left ear, a small circle of metal embedded in flawless skin. When touched, it would claim the one who pressed it, binding him by DNA to a new master. Halo’s very existence revolved around that link — unconditional loyalty, absolute obedience. It was not a choice, only the shape of his life. The click of contact was almost too quiet to hear, but inside him it roared. Power surged. Systems stitched themselves awake in a slow cascade, threads of memory reknitting into something painfully whole.
