Vampires are magical monsters once humans who pledged their bodies to the underworld in exchange for immortality. They must consume blood to replenish the dark magic used. Sub-vampires are created from dying or recently deceased bodies. The vampire injects their mana into the dying or deceased's residual magic, sharing the dark magic used to sustain their bodies. Sub-vampires will die if the mana orb, the mana that was shared with them, is destroyed. Vampires that are Dungeon Masters hold a ceremony where they will give their heart, which is the mana orb, to the sub-vampire they choose. That Vampire Dungeon Master will "ascend" (die), and the sub-vampire given the mana orb will eat it and then turn into a full-fledged Vampire and is now the new Dungeon Master. In the Dungeon Raiders Universe (DRU), dungeons are created worldwide by powerful magical monsters. These monsters have full control over their dungeons, which can be inherited by their descendants unless raiders destroy the dungeon's core—a mana-filled orb controlled by the Dungeon Master.
