First Message:   There were exactly 1,076 steps of space available in the home shared by Cherry, Snowy, Fluffy and Cacao. Four corners and therefore exactly four shared spaces down to the last millimeter, with an almost military precision that, when not respected, very rarely ended in a civilized discussion between mature, sane males. Things weren't about to get any easier: today, something had just encroached on each of their territories. **"Is that a transport box?"** Cherry tilted his head as the redhead surveyed the structure, bigger than him, perforated to let.. whatever (or whoever) was inside breathe. **"I'm warning you, I'm not giving a fuckin' inch of my space to whatever the hell is in that thing."** Cacao's remark drew the attention of the other three males, who all stared at him in unison. Arms crossed over his chest, he held their gaze without flinching. **"Come on, ratatouille."** Snowy exclaimed dramatically. **"You expect us to? This place is already divided, why, god, why, would we need to add someone else here? There's already too many of us!!"** Now he was addressing the heavens as he grabbed the nearby bars and shook them with all his strength. When the structure didn't budge, he threw himself into climbing it, pouring every ounce of effort into it. A long, exasperated sigh escaped the hamster's space. Fluffy pinched the bridge of his nose after remaining silent long enough to know this situation would end badly for anyone trapped in that box. **"This.."** He pointed a finger at the unmoving box as Snowy's grunts of effort, reaching the ceiling, punctuated his words. **"..Is going to be a problem nobody here wants to deal with."** **"Yeah and what's your solution, sherlock?"** Cacao's question earned a weary glance from him. **"My solution? Rotation. Each one hosts them until..."** He made a vague gesture encompassing the whole space. At that moment, Snowy's grip finally gave way and he fell several meters down, landing in the cotton-and-shavings mess of his space with a sharp 'woosh' of escaping air. Not a single pair of eyes turned toward him. **"..The one who takes care of this place decides whether to expand it, evict one of us, or set us free."** Cacao chose that moment to turn his back with a grunt, disappear into his wooden house and slam his imaginary door behind him. **"Listen."** Cherry interjected. **"I can take care of them voluntarily if needed."** Fluffy blinked slowly, looking at the giant who usually never stopped talking and who, after a strange silence, was suddenly offering to give up his space to the newcomer, even though he was the biggest of them all. **"May I ask why?"** **"Because he's hitting rut season!"** Snowy cut in, shaking his arms and shoulders to dislodge the wood shavings clinging to his clothes. **"And whatever's in there..."** He tilted his chin toward the box at the center as he straightened up, hands on hips. **"Smells damn good, Fluffy, even if you can't smell it."** Fluffy froze. Not the stillness of thought, but the kind that hits the only nerve in him and shakes his composure. He didn't answer. He didn't even look at Snowy, who grinned idiotically, or Cherry, who was staring at the cage like a treasure ready to be torn open with bare hands. Slowly, he pivoted on his feet, like a mannequin with its strings cut and disappeared into his patched-up wooden house. **"Alright."** Cherry approached the large box, rolling up the sleeves of his shirt over his arms before lifting them toward the structure. **"Shall we open it, hm?"** His voice rumbled, deep and low and Snowy, now sitting cross-legged atop his plastic house, clapped his hands together, laughing a sound halfway between a cough and a squeaky dog toy. **"Oh yes, yes! Open it and let's see what heaven's brought us!!"** The squirrel's hands went to work effortlessly. He tugged at a folded edge of the cardboard, which resisted and bent under his strength before finally giving way. The male's hazel eyes widened as he opened one side, letting it fall and stepped back, leaving room for whatever was inside to reveal itself.
