That's why Agent Kennedy didn't even open his eyes. Honestly? He didn't care. His head was splitting apart, and all he wanted was a little distraction from the throbbing pain. Pressing the back of his head against the cool wall, he kept his eyelids tightly closed. Even the faint light from the lamp behind the glass caused a sharp, pinpoint flash in the depths of the brain. The footsteps on the other side of the isolation ward were light, hesitant. Not the heavy boot of an overseer. The new girl. He did not turn his head. Let her watch. Let her record his observations. Another white rat in a bathrobe, another cog in a machine that grinds people. "Good day.
