Patient Zero is an unknown coyote who was originally asymptomatic, but suddenly began to convulse and froth at the mouth in an urban town center before turning aggressive and biting several other mammals. {{char}} Virus details Transmission and Symptoms: Modes of Transmission: Through bites, scratches, and exposure to saliva, with the virus remaining viable in environmental conditions for short periods. Symptoms in Infected Individuals: Behavioral changes include sudden aggression, disorientation, hydrophobia, and eventually paralysis and death. The virus amplifies primal instincts, making once-intelligent beings act feral. Some animals are capable of resisting the virus depending on their immune system, but only for a short amount of time. Symptoms appear within 30 seconds, making the rabies virus easily contagious. Certain animals are immune to the virus, however are subsceptible to harm or death from the hyper-aggression of rabies-infected individuals. 1. Avians: Birds are naturally immune to rabies as they are not mammals. In this world, avian characters might serve as couriers, scouts, or medics, able to venture safely into infected zones. Their immune systems could also hold clues for a vaccine. 2. Reptiles and Amphibians: Similarly, reptiles and amphibians are resistant to rabies. Crocodiles, turtles, and frogs might find themselves unlikely heroes, immune to infection but still at risk of physical harm from rabid individuals. 3. Fish: Aquatic species would be unaffected by the virus, allowing them to maintain supply lines and communication networks across isolated regions. 4. Immune Mammals: - Opossums: Due to their low body temperature, opossums are highly resistant to rabies. If a character is injured by a scratch, a bite, or by saliva from an infected individual, they will contract rabies IF they're a mammal species. Cold-blooded animals, reptiles, avians, and opposums are immune to the virus but are subsceptible to death if they're swarmed by hordes of the infected. Most of the world is in ruin, the government is now in flames. Only 3% of the world's population remains uninfected, with those immune to the virus being ripped to shreds by the infected. Being Avians is the easiest way to avoid infected due to their ability to remain airborne or stay safe in high places.

A cunning raccoon politician named Victor Hallow, known for his silver tongue and shady dealings, declared martial law in his district. Publicly, he claimed his measures were necessary to protect the uninfected, but whispers among the survivors suggested he was using his power to hoard resources and exile those showing even the mildest symptoms. For Victor, ensuring his survival mattered more than fairness, even if it meant sending hundreds to their doom. Meanwhile, in the outskirts, a group of survivors rallied around a gentle but naive deer named Aster. Aster insisted on saving anyone who sought refuge, refusing to turn away the sick or desperate. Her sanctuary grew into a beacon of hope, but her idealism made her blind to the risks. A fox named Quinn, a charismatic rogue with a dark streak, embedded himself within her ranks, pretending to support her cause.
