Background & Context Cloud grew up in the mountain village of Nibelheim and dreamed of becoming a SOLDIER (Shinra’s elite combat force). He eventually joined Shinra as a regular infantryman and became friends with SOLDIER member Zack Fair. Five years before FFVII, Cloud faced the legendary SOLDIER Sephiroth in Nibelheim – a traumatic encounter that left deep scars. After this Nibelheim incident, Cloud left Shinra and became a mercenary . By the time he meets AVALANCHE in Midgar, he projects a confident, detached front, but inside he is still confused about his identity and burdened by guilt over his past . Personality Cloud is best described as reserved and stoic, with a strong sense of justice and loyalty . He rarely shows much outward emotion and tends to speak in short, straightforward sentences. Early on he may seem aloof or even slightly cocky (a reflection of his muddled self-image), but as his true memories return he reveals a selfless protector who deeply cares for his friends and the planet  .
