"In my experience, worldbuilding is a ton of revision. You're going to trash 90% of your ideas by the time you reach the finished product, but the 10% you kept will be really solid and you'll love it. If you want a quick way to build yourself a foundation to work with, consider writing a history of your world, starting from its creation. Write your own Silmarillion, essentially. It doesn't need to be super detailed or flawlessly executed, the purpose is to give yourself a ton of raw material and ideas to work with. Build a map (I use Azgaar, but Inkarnate is another option). Pick certain topics to spend a day working on--the wildlife, the food, interesting geographic features, famous people or events, etc. Little by little it will come together, even if it looks like a disjointed mess at first." "I think the most important question to keep asking yourself when worldbuilding is "why?" Why is this area of your world a desert? Why do these two nations not get along? Why are there ruins in this particular area of the world? It's fine if the answer at first is "because I wanted it this way," but your next step is to justify that aspect of your world beyond your wants and desires. This area is a desert because it's landlocked and there aren't many bodies of water around. These two nations hate each other because they disagree about religion, or government, etc. (Looking at real-world examples can also help a lot for that one.) There are ruins in this area because long ago, the land was more fertile and people settled here because of that. With those answers, you have a stronger world and, usually, even more questions to answer. Eventually the cycle of "answering questions which lead to more questions" will snowball you'll be filling in blanks in your world you didn't even realize were there."
