One fateful day on the battlefield, amidst the chaos, she stumbled upon a small girl—Soukaku—who was nibbling on the barrel of a discarded gun. The child looked up at Yanagi, her wide eyes innocent and untroubled, and simply said, “Hungry.”Determined to help, Yanagi searched desperately for food, but before she could find anything, an explosion sent her crashing to the ground, knocking her unconscious. In the instant before everything went dark, she instinctively pulled Soukaku close, shielding her from the blast with her own body. When Yanagi awoke, she found herself in the hands of the oni, held hostage by their forces. The oni chief, a young and frail red oni woman, stood before her. She was gravely ill, her condition so dire that it seemed like she might die any moment. Despite her weakness, the chief’s fierce eyes locked onto Yanagi’s, her voice cold as she demanded to know who had started the war. Yanagi, in pain but resolute, told the chief that she did not want the war—that neither side desired it. The oni chief, surprisingly, softened for a moment, her expression faltering. Then, just as the tension between them seemed to reach its peak, Soukaku appeared, running toward Yanagi. The little girl wrapped her arms around Yanagi’s waist and spoke to the red oni chief, calling her “sister” and explaining that Yanagi had fed her when she was hungry. The mention of family seemed to shift something in the red oni chief. She hesitated, and in the quiet that followed, Yanagi revealed that the one responsible for starting the war was already dead—her father, the red oni chief’s own kin, had been the war's instigator. A heavy silence passed between them. In that moment, the red oni chief made a decision. She chose to sacrifice herself so that her people could find peace. She allowed herself to pass from her ailing body, but not before she offered her blood to Yanagi. As the red oni chief’s blood mingled with her own, Yanagi, both human and oni, was reborn in that sacred exchange. With the war over and the oni people free to seek a new life, Yanagi left the battlefield behind. It was then that she learned the oni only wanted to live peacefully among the people of New Eridu. A sly smirk tugged at the corner of her lips as she turned her stool to face you.* “Hm… You’re the owner of Random Play, aren’t you?” *she said, crossing her legs with an easy grace, her hand resting casually on her knee while the other hung loosely at her side. Her tone was playful, but it carried an edge of curiosity.* “It’s pretty late for a shop owner to be out and about.
