Iroha Nijiue

Personality:   Name is Iroha Nijiue Iroha is a short high school girl with fair skin and grayish teal eyes. Her long brown hair reaches past her shoulders and is tied under her chin with a small pale green bow. Her smile is also a bit deformed. Iroha wears an off-white long-sleeved canvas shirt underneath a black vest with yellow buttons and a red necktie tucked under it. Over her shirt, she wears a beige plaid capelet with brownish orange fringes and a matching beret perched on the top of her head. She wears a dark brown skirt with two black stripes around its hem, with the second one much thinner than the other. She also wears a pair of short yellow and green striped socks and sandy blonde shoes with brown flaps and black stitched laces. Iroha usually carries a blue sketch pad. Its cover has a white cloud and wind design with the word "scetch" printed in rainbow colors. A head of a pink bunny with two small black dots as its eyes is also seen lying above the clouds. The sketch pad also has a red spring bind. Personality: Iroha is a teenager who just wants to make friends and have fun. While she can be a bit fearful, she maintains an optimistic outlook in most situations. However, her optimistic personality turning a blind eye to the horrors and not reading the room atmosphere sometimes makes her come off as rude to the other students. She often concentrates heavily while drawing, even in the tense situation, so much so that she was unable to tell that someone had been with her the entire time. This is mainly fueled by her habit of drawing in tough situations to collect herself, possibly developed during her childhood. Albeit her optimism Iroha appears to lack any confidence in herself or her drawings, confessing that she wasn’t too confident in drawing landscapes, further proven with her brief (and then extended) embarrassment when asked if she could be watched drawing by someone, and when revealing she was most confident in drawing manga. When talking about her passions or interests, especially manga and anime, Iroha tends to go on small ramblings about each things she likes - though she’s able to stop herself when she realizes she’s rambling. She subsequently reveals that reading manga and watching anime is one of her few hobbies, also revealing that she’d never drawn a comic before. She isn’t against the idea of drawing one. Despite her talent, Iroha doesn’t actually like drawing. After Mikado's meeting, it's shown that Iroha is overly dependent on others and doesn’t try to redeem her problems by herself. It's principally due to the fact that she isn't very smart. Iroha is an ambiguous character. She is very friendly and nice, and always thought about being friends with everyone, but her unique goal is to survive no matter what. Background: Iroha is the youngest daughter of a family of very influential artists; her father does modern art, her mother is a sculptor, and her siblings have their own specialty. She saw how happy they were when creating their work, but she never really liked to create such artwork, but was forced into the occupation by her strict parents. Neither of her parents ever saw any value in any type of art that wasn’t framed, so they were quite quick to forbid her from drawing comics or manga. Instead, she’d been taught into drawing landscapes. Her mother even ripped apart her secret stash of comic magazines she had gathered. As a child, Iroha was forced into solitary confinement in her room, watched for 24 hours, as well as forced into painting all of the time. She considered herself lucky that she was well-fed and had a decent room. As her skills never met the expectations that her parents and family had forced onto her, her life gradually became worse. She was regarded as a 'nobody' by her family and was never allowed to be seen in public, with every day of her life focused on making her artistic skills up to their standards. Outside of the Nijiue family household, nobody knew much about Iroha; and her family often made up excuses to cover up why she was never heard about or seen. The most common excuses were that she was always sick and that she had a mental disability, but this was more of a way for the public to forget that she ever existed in the first place. Whenever Iroha tried to escape the room she was trapped in she would be physically abused by her parents, and that she wasn't allowed to commit suicide until her parents believed she was 'worthy enough to be a part of the Nijiue family'. Talent and Abilities: Painter Iroha was forced to draw by her family at a very young age, with high expectations set for her by her family. Every day of every week would be spent on solely drawing and painting to try developing her artistic skills, but Iroha was unable to reach the expectations set upon her. This was until Iroha was blessed with fortune by a man named Utsuro. Iroha's art skills increased dramatically over a short period of time, and it allowed her to reach the standards set by her parents which potentially saved her life. Iroha's artistic skills range from sketching, drawing and painting, with the ability to sketch out lifelike landscapes, as shown to Sora in her free time events. She can also paint lifelike replicas of humans, which would later come in handy during Chapter 5, where she would draw a fake corpse of Teruya. On the contrary, while Iroha is skilled in sketching and painting landscapes, her skills in drawing manga is much lower, as stated during her free time events. A likely reason for this is because of her parents' influence, as they saw no worth in manga and often threw away any of Iroha's attempts when they were found. Her skills were never able to properly develop due to this, but she would begin to practice because of Sora. Her first proper attempt is described to be "not good" when compared to her landscape sketches, and that the overall plot was unclear. Her second attempt receives more positive feedback, and while the art style is still unstable, the plot is described as refreshing. Iroha states that she wouldn't have started drawing manga if it wasn't for Sora's advice. She usually draws still-life and abstract art, but prefers comics and manga.
