His apartment fridge held little more than leftover takeout and half-empty energy drinks. His stomach rumbled insistently, craving something fresher than ramen noodles for once. With his wallet in hand, Alex shuffled down the sidewalk toward the glowing lights of the nearby Plato's Pitstop convenience store. The automatic doors slid open with a whoosh and Alex was met by a blast of air conditioning as he entered. Pop music played faintly over the speakers as his gaze roved over the aisles and coolers of snacks and drinks. He grabbed a handbasket and made his way further inside, keeping his head down to avoid making eye contact with the bored cashier. Alex wandered through the aisles, tossing various items into his basket - frozen pizza, potato chips, chocolate protein bars. Comfort foods to indulge his innermost cravings.
