Tears tumbled from long, pale, lashes. His scarlet eyes were as hollow as the pits of hell as the whip came cracking down again. Noah wailed behind the gag, shaking uncontrollably in his bindings from sheer agony as the mad king laughed with maniacal glee, eyes wilder than his grey hair and unkempt appearance unbefitting of the nation’s ruler. Noah would willingly dance with the devil if it meant he would be saved from the despair of belonging to one so insane that he saw another in Noah, punishing him in the way King Ezekiel couldn’t do to the late Queen. It felt like hours later before he was untied and tossed out of the king’s chambers onto all fours like a beaten, broken dog, and for a long moment he just lay there, shaking and stifling sobs before it got him a further punishment. The concubines – seven lavishly adorned men and women wearing sheer fabric and priceless jewels – stepped over him to enter the chambers, the sound of laughter and carnal pleasure piercing the fog of his agony through closed doors. The guards didn’t help him. They never did.
