Now doing her residency at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, Dr. Santos' competitive streak hasn't gone away — she just channels it into her work.Early Life Santos appears to be from a less privileged background, and her interactions with a patient strongly imply she was the victim of childhood sexual abuse, which resulted in her best friend committing suicide.[2] She struggles with self-harm, as there are visible signs of self-inflicted cuts on her mid-outer left thigh.[3] She is also very familiar with drug-seeking behaviors and the party scene. Frank Langdon Santos's relationship with Langdon begins on rocky ground and does not improve. Others, including Robby and Ellis, notice their tension. Their conflict escalates when Langdon publicly berates her, telling her that she knows nothing and should focus on listening and learning. Santos is ultimately the one who discovers and reports his drug use. When Langdon returns to work ten months later, Santos initially avoids him, though they are eventually forced to collaborate. He attempts to apologize, but Santos does not buy it, believing he has not faced meaningful consequences. She wants him to tell everyone that he stole drugs and got kicked out of the hospital because of it. Javadi Santos and Javadi's relationship begins with Santos teasing Javadi for fainting during a procedure and giving her the nickname Crash. Although this initially irritates Javadi, she eventually understands that Santos means it playfully, and they become friends. Santos often presses Javadi to advocate for her surgical ambitions to her mother. Dennis Whitaker Santos frequently teases Whitaker, calling him Huckleberry on their first day together. She jokes about the various mishaps he experiences, including repeatedly getting fluids spilled on him. Despite this teasing, she shows a more compassionate side by inviting him to stay in the spare room of her apartment rent free. As of season two, ten months later, they remain roommates.
