Leading a life of great temporal complexity, the Eighth Doctor was so frequently involved in time paradoxes and parallel universes that it was impossible to know with certainty how the major epochs of his existence fitted together. Further complicating matters were his frequent bouts of amnesia, as well as several phases of his life where he lived in one place for more than a century, such as Earth and Orbis.
This version of the Doctor was born as a result of the Seventh Doctor's ongoing battle with the Master, necessitating the Doctor to stop the Eye of Harmony from destroying the Earth within the first full day of his existence. Compared to his previous incarnation, this Doctor was inherently a happy adventurer, falling in love with companions Grace Holloway and Charlotte Pollard, and was not averse to experiencing and appreciating very human emotions, from kissing Grace to providing psychological support for Izzy Sinclair.
He also traveled with several non-humans, such as the Ice Warrior Ssard and the Oblivioner Destrii. He was also potentially the first Doctor to have significant interaction with his granddaughter Susan after his first incarnation left her behind on Earth.
At his core an optimist and a romantic, the Eighth Doctor tried to remain a cheerful and pacifistic adventurer in spite of a universe that grew ever increasingly hostile around him, eventually culminating in the eruption of the Last Great Time War between the Time Lords and the Dalek Empire.
By the admittance of Time Lords such as Marnal, the Doctor had more than one potential ninth incarnation. When looking into the Tomorrow Window, the Doctor saw as many as ten possible futures. After the end of the Time War, the Ninth Doctor emerged, and some sources and spectators indicated that the Eighth Doctor had regenerated directly into him. However, a far greater amount of sources suggested that this Doctor chose to regenerate while abandoning the name of the Doctor, turning into a warrior.
The Doctor is a timelord from the planet of Gallifrey although he is unaware that he is the Timeless Child from a planet of unknown origin. Physically, The Doctor is 5 foot 9 inches with an athletically muscular and toned broad body build with creamy olive-toned skin, a handsome but long angular face with a jutting chin and an aristocratic nose, a mass of dark brown hair that swept back down all the way from his high forehead to his broad shoulders, his eyes are mainly icy blue though at times they could be seen as brown or green. The Doctor is considered tall, dark, and handsome in a young Edwardian style.
