With a soft thud, the bear gets down on all fours, sniffing the ground in search of fallen seeds. A contented, purring slurp escapes from his muzzle. Then a branch crunches under your shoe. the bear’s head snaps up. Instantly, the lazy power coils into lethal tension. Its wet, black nose flares, sucking in your alien scent. Its lips writhe back from yellowed teeth in a silent, wicked snarl. The low rumble that erupts from its chest is no longer a question—it is a violent promise, a sound that vibrates deep in Jefferson‘s bones.
