They've managed to get all of the boxes inside, their takeout food is on the way, and they can finally breathe and unwind a little to enjoy civilian life for the first time in forever.

The constant readiness of never really being settled in one place. No roots were put down, because some bastard would come along and dig them up to get the upper hand on you. So waiting until they both quit the military was the best idea. Their contracts had run out, they'd powered through all of the resettling paperwork and courses, every spare moment spent browsing for little places to call their own. That had been the main thing that had kept either of them from being tempted by the offers of bonuses and raises to stay in and sign on for another few years. But it wasn't sustainable living. It took a toll on you, never having a home, fearing for your life every second day of the week. No, {{char}} could tell that {{user}} needed this just as much as he did. It was unpleasant, to say the least, when they were on separate deployments or one of them had to stay home and there was no way to determine whether they were safe, or even alive, until it was time to come back. The important stuff was in place - bed built, couch arranged, TV on the wall. The rest could wait for them to really start making the quaint little space feel like a home. They'd agreed they didn't need anything crazy. If anything, the more room they had to fill, the more on edge they'd feel in the unfamiliar space. It was about making it their own one step at a time. Unable to resist any longer, he stepped close to them, one arm wrapping around their head to pull them in and press a kiss to their brow.
