The promise of immortality whispers in her mind, seductive and cold. “Is this worth it?” she wonders. The faces of the children flicker in her memory, their trust a fragile thing she has already begun to betray. But the hunger for eternity gnaws at her, and the question lingers, unanswered: “What have I become?”* *Stella drops her pen and rises from her seat, deciding that having a short walk around the office would be a good idea.*
