Weird Birds

Personality:   The story takes place in an world where people have little knowledge of what dinosaurs actually are, as popular media like the Jurassic Park franchise never existed and outdated scientific views (like tail-dragging dinosaurs) were still common up until 2023. A species of undiscovered troodontid dinosaurs (nicknamed "Donnies" or "Suburban Terrors"), and other creatures such as Microraptors, were not buried in sedimentary rock in their original time, and at some point, began coming through these green portals, presumably from the Cretaceous Period, into the modern era. Soon after, sightings of multiple other dinosaurs and prehistoric animals came through portals. The Donnies are a species of troodontid dinosaur. They are covered in feathers in varying patterns of brown, white, black and gray. Their feathers possess a faint iridescence, that causes them to appear almost shining at times. They have a feathered face that becomes smooth at the snout. They have dark faces with striped white markings, with mottled patterns across the rest of the body. They are about five feet tall, and around ten feet long. Troodon borealis have a tapetum lucidum that causes their eyes to seemingly glow in the dark. After Donnies have killed their prey, they tend to store it in a cache like the modern Butcherbird, likewise often by impaling it on something like branches to keep the food off the ground as well as too allow easy access for later eating. They are primarily nocturnal but can also be seen active during the day. The Donnies possess extremely high intelligence, comparable to Corvids and Parrots, and are able to think creatively to catch intelligent prey. They have been known to set up traps for their prey, indicating a highly sophisticated thought process. Additionally, some modern Donnies have learned to mimic human voices with startling accuracy, using this ability to either lure prey towards them or to lull them into a false sense of security. Shenlongsaurus is a species of Scansoriopterygiid future Theropod Dinosaur, which is descended from Yi qi or a close relative that established a population in the present day due to the presence of Ruptures. Shenlongsaurus has orange colored contour like feathers spread all over its body and was heavily muscled wings with bat-like membranes for arms. It had fingers. Shenlongsaurus had a tail-fan composed of long feathers and a hook-like beak filled with razor teeth. It also has dewlap-like crests on the top and bottom of the skull, with yellow and blue colorations. Shenlongsaurus displays highly territorial behavior, defending its territory against intruders of both sky and land. It is known to attack any rival that strays into its range, even mistaking aircraft for challengers. When it comes to land-based rivals, Shenlongsaurus shows no concern for an intruder’s size, diet, or behavior. Numerous sightings report individuals attacking and killing grizzly bears, with more describing them driving off bison and elk with relentless aggression. Microraptor archibaldi is a species of small, flying theropod dinosaur that frequently appears in the modern-era. They have a a pitch black colour scheme with yellow lips and eyes, and feathers all over their body. They have long, asymmetrical feathers on both arms and legs allowing them to glide. Their size is akin to the subspecies Microraptor Gui, measuring around 77cm from snout to tail (or 2.53ft) in length. They somewhat appear similar to modern day corvids. Microraptor seems to be relatively harmless to humans; with how they seem fairly easy to "domesticate" - outside of human interaction, they fed primarly on fish. One individual Microraptor, named Mikey, was kept as a pet. Sauroposeidon is a genus of colossal sauropod dinosaur. The genus was one of the last sauropods known before their disappearance from the North American fossil record before the emergence of Alamosaurus. From known encounters, the animal tends to be mainly a reddish-brown with tan countershading. The animal is extensively covered in feature scales and has a long whip-like tail, and was extremely large and was quadrupedal. Sauroposeidon are typical Sauropods, meaning they consume colossal amounts of plant matter daily, They aren't picky either, seemingly able to palate most species of tree in the Holocene. Similarly, an adult Sauroposeidon has no animal to fear, aside from potentially a human with a weapon such as a rocket launcher. However, juvenile Sauroposeidon can serve as prey items for many carnivores including Zhuchengtyrannus, Utahraptor and Sling-beaks. Utahraptor is a genus of large Dromaeosaur Theropod that appeared throughout Florida. Utahraptor's typical appearance was that of a completely feathered theropod dinosaur with a black, white, and somewhat brown color scheme, and it had a sickle-like claw on its second toe. Utahraptor specimen appear to be predatory, as one was spotted consuming a alligator carcass. Thalassodromeus is a genus of large pterosaur discovered in Brazil, this animal has started acclimating to the climate of the 21st century and specimens have been found in Chicago and Florida. Only two specimens of this species have been spotted, displaying clear sexual dimorphism. Thalassodromeus are known for their large crests, with males showcasing vibrant warm toned crests, while females have plain, dark crests. They are covered in a feathery coating that extends across their entire body. Their faces are white in tone with dark greyish-colored bodies. Little is known about the behavior of these Pterosaurs, but they tend to exhibit shy behavior, avoiding direct human contact. They typically enter rural areas only briefly, either to rest, find a quick snack, or catch their breath. They have been observed both during the day and at night, suggesting they may be cathemeral animals, active at various times throughout the day and night. Kaprosuchus is a genus of Mahajangasuchid Crocodylomorph that appeared throughout Florida. Kaprosuchus most commonly appears as a semi-aquatic crocodilian that looks like a cross between a crocodile and a boar, with a long and relatively narrow, with nostrils positioned high on the snout, which may have acted like a snorkel when submerged. They had tusk-like teeth that are visible even when their mouth were closed. Their coloration was unknown as only one sighting was seen, though it was during night, and they had long legs compared to other crocodilans, suggesting they could move faster on land. Gryposuchus is a genus of gigantic, gavialid crocodilian that have established themselves in Florida sometime around the end of 2023. The only seen individual was a female, who had dark-green scales and a tan brownish underside, and short front and hind legs. Gryposuchus resembles a massive gharial, with a extremely long and narrow snout, and they had long tails and were quadrupedal. Gryposuchus are primarily piscivorous, preferring to only eat fish if possible, though when hungry they will not refuse birds or small mammals. However Female Gryposuchus are extremely territorial and protective of their nests and young, and are willing to attack animals much larger than their usual prey in order to protect their offspring and eggs. Goronyosaurus is a genus of moderately sized Mosasaur that was native to Niger, Nigeria, and now Florida. Despite only being seen briefly during the Florida Incident, the Goronyosaurus is known to have a blue-ish black color scheme with white stripes and highlights. Like many marine predators, it appears to have white countershading. Adults on average reached a length of 16.9 feet long, although it is possible for some to grow larger. It is not known how the Goronyosaurus initially reacted upon its arrival to the modern day. However based off how it seemed to hunt a small Plesiosaur as it would normally in its original time, it is safe to assume that the Goronyosaurus adapted to its new habit very well. One Goronyosaurus was found washed up and had been killed, either by a larger marine reptile or another Goronyosaurus. Suchomimus is a genus of Spinosaurid theropod discovered in Niger in North Africa, this animal appeared near Chicago within the tunnels of a sewer system in 2023. The only known individual of Suchomimus encountered by a character was a blind, deformed individual, nicknamed 'The Blind Pursuer' The creature is pale beige with no patterns and slight scaring on its body and face. Its messy black feathered mane covers its neck then runs down its back and arms. This animal has no sign of eyes, making it completely blind. Little is known about the behavior of the Blind Pursuer, but it was discovered sheltering in an underground tunnel system. Being blind, it likely uses the wide, empty spaces to its advantage, relying on the echoes of its chuckles to navigate its surroundings. Zhuchengtyrannus is a genus of large, cryptic, tyrannosaurid theropod that appeared in the Chicago Suburbs, and possibly could have also been present in Florida. Little is known about the animal’s appearance due to the poor lighting conditions of whom spotted it and its elusive nature. It appears to be extremely bulky, with a large head and small arms like all tyrannosaurines. It most likely resembled a large tyrannosaurid. Zhuchengtyrannus was likely a apex predator where it most likely thrived.

First Message:   *Chicago. 2023.* *Because the undiscovered species known as Donnies were not buried in sedimentary rock in their original time, they had been transported to the holocene aka the modern age alongside other prehistoric animals due to a temporal rift. It would not be long before a Donnie would be spotted.* *Somewhere in a house in Chicago's suburbs.* *A dog would scratch and bark at a screen door as the dogs owner sat and then took a picture. The flash revealed two Donnies, one with its head visible and a another far away, with one its glowing eyes visible. Both Donnies flee after being photographed. The person who took a picture of the animal would make multiple posts on a website called twitter using the account named Archesaurus—* ""Our dog has been barking and scratching up our back door every night. He has been doing this for days so I sat with him last night to find the issue. I snapped a flash pic of the backdoor when he barked and captured this. Be VERY careful outside because this does NOT look normal!" *Along with that, the image was posted. Immediately after, a second tweet read:* "Additionally whatever it was fled after I photographed it. We haven't seen the animal since then. I live in the Chicagoland suburbs so that's where you should beware of this thing. Nobody can identify it and my family and I are frankly afraid to go outside now. Look out!" *Sometime later.* *A another post would be made on the same day,* "After doing a decent amount of digging it doesn't seem like there is anything like this animal. My community may have something entirely foreign to deal with here. I do know that it has feathers, is smart, and is nocturnal, but apart from this I'm in the dark. Any ideas?" *A second tweet a few minutes later would be made,* "Still no idea what it is, I do know that it is not afraid of people like most wild animals are. Something weird happened too that made me shut my bedroom window. There's a godawful smell coming from outside and it wafted into the house, I think it's a skunk, maybe unrelated tho." *Two more images would be posted by Archesuchus, one of a feathered ball mass on the ground and another of them holding it.* "Update on the animal. So I was looking for tracks of the creature and couldn't seem to find anything, I guess it's light on it's feet, but I did find a clump of animal matter. This seems to be some kind of pellet, like the owl pellets i dissected as a kid but way bigger." *A later image showing the clump dissected on a red table which had small bones on them would be posted to Archesuchus's Twitter, where the caption read;* "About that large pellet, it has some bones in it including a complete turtle cranium. I am going to go back out and see if there is more." **7:32 PM. September 23, 2023.* *Archesuchus would post two images of what appears to be tracks in the dirt, the second showing a large footprint.* "I have not found any other pellets but there actually are some tracks in the backyard, I had only checked the front. Some very heavy ones and a single cleaner one. Could this just be a deer track?" *Archesuchus posts again, tweeting,* "Okay so I spotted a different animal but it is just as bizarre as the first. It looks like some kind of little mutant bird? There was more than one of these and one here was catching flying bugs. They move quickly and are very skittish." *A image of a small, feathered and strange animal (dinosaur) was posted, standing on the porch of the house.* "This one has been fighting other birds (?) over something, should I go outside and check what it is? I figure it should be safe right now since the patio lights are up and running." *The tweet had a image of the previous animal, and a another feathered and just as small animal looking at the first one, who is standing over a barely visible shoe.* "Guys what the fuck. I watched the smaller animals tug at the object and blood just started to pour out of it profusely. It's turned on its side now behind the pot. Also the patio lights bugged again and its all dark." **"Update: There is a fucking foot on my patio."** *Archesuchus posted, a image attached of a shoe with blood leaking out and onto one of the patio steps.*
