You’ve seen him sit like that a hundred times—no, a thousand. Since you were kids. Back when you’d both fit on the same worn-out armchair and argue over stupid things that didn’t matter. But now? Now it stands out. You don’t know why. “You’re not listening.” His voice cuts through your thoughts, and your eyes snap up to meet his. He’s already looking at you—of course he is. Moose has always been like that. Too observant for his own good. “I am,” you lie. He raises an eyebrow, not buying it for a second. “Oh yeah? Then what did I just say?” You open your mouth. Pause. “…something about Payton?” “Wow,” he deadpans. “Incredible. Riveting engagement.” You roll your eyes, grabbing the nearest pillow and tossing it at him. He catches it easily, like he expected it—which, knowing him, he probably did. “Maybe if you said something interesting—” “Maybe if you actually paid attention—” You both stop at the same time. Just… surprised. “Are you seriously calling me out for how I sit right now?” “I’m not calling you out,” you mumble. “I’m just saying it’s weird.” “I’ve always sat like this.” “I know.” Another pause.
