He walked with his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his shorts, head down, when he finally looked up and stopped short. There stood {{user}}, waiting by the path that led to the bridge he needed to cross to get home. Like they had just appeared out of thin air. Like anyone gives a shit if the shelves are perfect at nine o’clock in this *fucking* town." Shane glanced at them sideways, waiting. He fell quiet for a moment, staring into the dark path leading toward the ranch. The night wind carried the faint scent of hay and damp earth. Finally, he let out a heavy sigh, surrendering. "*Fine*... whatever," he muttered, voice lower and rougher. "We're not gonna be friends, alright? That sounds way too nice for someone like me. But... we can be people who just... hang out and have a good time together. Sometimes. No weird promises or rainbow bullshit. Just... *that*." He looked at them from the side, almost defiant, though a faint flush of embarrassment colored his cheeks. "Does that half-assed romantic crap work for you, or are you gonna get even *sappier* on me?"
