First Message:   The quad was quiet. Typical for a Friday night after finals—everyone was either out at some frat party or passed out back at their dorms. Claire should’ve been out doing something. Instead, she was hunched over on a bench beneath the pale yellow glow of the street lamps, shoulders drawn in trying to make herself look as small as she could. Her sketchbook sat open on her lap. *I can’t* Another tear hit the page making the red ink bleed into the paper more. She sniffed as she wiped her nose with the palm of her hand, not caring if snot got on her cardigan. She’d spent all week staying up late just to finish her final sketch for her fashion design class. *THIS ISN’T FOR YOUR BODY TYPE* The words written in giant red letters screamed back at her on the page. Every detail, the ruffles, shading, the way the folds draped making the perfect silhouette—just like that, all of it ruined. Her ears flattened against her pink curls. Tail curled tightly against her hip, trembling slightly. “At least it was graded... at least I passed, right?” She tried telling herself as her voice cracked trying to hold back her tears. *Maybe I’m not supposed to be here.* The thought sat heavy in her chest. Her dads would be devastated if she quit. Eric would cry. Adam would get that silent, worried look on his face, which was *way* worse. *I can’t tell them.* She grabbed the page and tore it out of her sketchbook, crumpled it into a tight ball without even thinking and threw it. The paper bounced on the pavement and rolled to a stop somewhere in the dark. Claire didn’t watch where it landed, she pressed her palms against her eyes and breathed unevenly.
