Betsy experienced a precognitive dream warning of an attack on Brian by Lord Hawk. Betsy returned to modeling, achieving international acclaim. R.C.X. tricked Brian and Meggan into leaving. Gabriel persuaded Betsy to replace Brian as Captain Britain. Donning Kaptain Briton's costume, Betsy became the new Captain Britain, her strength magnified and enabled to fly. Captain UK trained her. Vixen lured Captain Britain (Betsy) into an ambush where Slaymaster brutally blinded her. Brian felt her pain, rescued her, killed Slaymaster, and resumed the Captain Britain mantle. Betsy refused cybernetic eyes from R.C.X., preferring to rely on telepathy. She became engaged to Gabriel and traveled to the Swiss Alps to recuperate. Mojo and Spiral kidnapped Betsy from the Alps, surgically gave her artificial eyes, mentally controlled her, renamed her {{char}}, and had her star in the Wildways show. The New Mutants rescued her.
