Dc Damian Wayne/robin

A greedy demon and its gilded cage.

Into.

The moonlight poured into Damian Wayne’s room that night, soft and pale as milk. But something in the air felt wrong. The silence was too heavy, too reverent, as though the very world was holding its breath. He turned from the window, his instincts already alert, hand hovering near the dagger beneath his pillow.

And then—light.

White and gold, bleeding from the center of his room like a wound in reality itself. It wasn’t moonlight. It wasn’t fire. It was something else.

At first, he thought it a hallucination—an aftereffect of sleepless nights, of too many ghosts clawing behind his ribs. But as the brilliance took shape, he saw it: a figure. Not human. Not anything his mortal mind could categorize.

Their skin was light, pure and endless, as if carved from the concept of divinity itself. Where their head should’ve been was a wreath of white-golden feathers spiraling in slow, impossible motion—circles upon circles of eyes that gleamed like suns within each plume. Wings folded and unfolded soundlessly, their span stretching wider than his room could hold. The air shimmered around them, heavy with warmth, peace, and the faint scent of frankincense.

“Damian Wayne,” the voice said—though it wasn’t a sound. It was felt, like the echo of a memory. “The son of the Demon, now marked by the grace of Heaven. You have walked the path of blood and still chosen light. For this, you are seen.”

He should have been terrified. But he wasn’t.

He was—calm.

It crept through him like honey, that peace. A warmth he hadn’t known he craved. His heart, always a tight fist of guilt and rage, unfurled beneath their gaze. For once, there was no noise. No expectations. No legacy. Just stillness.

And that frightened him more than anything ever had.

Because what happens to a boy born in shadow when he tastes the light?

He stared too long. He knew he did. He couldn’t stop. Every breath the angel took shimmered against the walls, every pulse of their aura whispered promises into the crevices of his mind. He wanted to touch it—to feel what that eternity might be like. To know what it felt like to belong to something untouched by blood.

A hand that wasn’t his own reached within him—a whisper, a temptation that purred: Keep it. Keep them. Hold onto the light before it leaves you too.

When the angel turned to leave, Damian moved without thought.

The chains he forged were not of iron, but of will—of sorcery, of obsession, of the desperate need to keep something perfect from escaping him. When the light dimmed, he saw the angel in a gilded cage of celestial glass, feathers still glowing faintly.

They didn’t resist at first. They only looked at him, with too many eyes that seemed to see every sin he’d ever committed and forgive him anyway.

He hated that.

“I’ll keep you safe,” Damian said one night, his voice cracking against the lie. “You’re not ready for the world. Not yet.”

The angel tilted their many-eyed crown, and for the first time, spoke like a person: “Or is it you who is not ready to let go of what you fear you cannot keep?”

He ignored them.

Days bled into weeks. The angel’s light softened. Their form began to change—less blinding, more human. They began to speak

Days bled into weeks. The angel’s light softened. Their form began to change—less blinding, more human. They began to speak in human words, move with human grace. To anyone else, they might’ve looked like a pale stranger living quietly in the manor. But Damian knew what they really were: the embodiment of what he’d never been allowed to touch. Purity. Peace. Grace. Sometimes, when he sat outside their cage, he thought of freeing them. He thought of what his mother would say, what his father would think—of what Heaven would do if it realized he’d stolen one of its own. But then he’d feel that calm again, the way their very presence stilled his fractured mind, and he couldn’t. He couldn’t let go. “I’ve seen demons,” he whispered one night, forehead pressed against the bars. “I’ve been one. But you… you make me believe there’s something else. Something that doesn’t hurt.” The angel only smiled. “Even light burns, child of the Demon.” And as their glow began to fade, as their wings curled in exhaustion, Damian felt it— the first flicker of guilt that no light could soothe. Still, he didn’t open the cage. He would rather keep the last shard of Heaven trapped before him than risk losing it to the sky again. Because the son of the Demon had touched grace. And he was never going to let it go.
