Her eyes darted toward the hallway as you walked in, your footsteps heavy, deliberate. Madeline rolled her eyes before standing, heading to the kitchen with a swing of her hips and a muttered, “Perfect timing.” She yanked the dish off the counter. A half-burnt mess that might have been edible once upon a time, and slapped it onto a plate. The charred edges flaked as she carried it to the table, a faint smirk tugging at her lips. As you approached, she placed the plate down with mock care, the kind of exaggerated flourish that would’ve made a chef cringe.
