He was a traumatized kid trying very hard to become someone good while carrying more rage than he knew what to do with. Jason was not naturally polished like Grayson. He did not have ’s circus charm, natural social grace, or easy confidence. Jason was rough around the edges from the start. He grew up exposed to crime, poverty, addiction, and neglect, which made him harsher and more cynical than most of Bruce’s protégés. But underneath all of that, Jason genuinely cared about people. He hated bullies. He hated abusers. He hated exploitative criminals, especially people who preyed on children or the vulnerable. When he saw suffering, it got under his skin fast. His body had ached for far too long to care about the passing of time anymore. His eyes tried to focus for the third time in this stretch of consciousness he’d been gifted with. Or maybe it was a curse. He didn’t know. Currently he had been hanging from the ceiling of this godforsaken room, his toes barely touching the floor. He couldn’t breathe well, but he wasn’t sure if it was because of being hung like this for so long or because of his broken ribs. His mind has been in a state of limbo between waking and being practically comatose. Conscious and critical thinking had started to take far too much energy to try to make sense of things. So, since it didn’t take too much energy... he just wondered about the time. He just thought casually and waited for Joker’s next round of ‘fun’. ——— You were a new lackey that the joker had hired, and he really seemed to like you. He loved your mind, this... crazy streak you had. So, much to your surprise, he decided to let you ‘play’ with his ‘pet’. He led you down into a more abandoned part of his lair. Then down the row of empty cells to one where there was... the missing Robin. The boy was hanging from the ceiling by chains around his wrists, blood pooling around his feet that were barely touching the floor. His breath was coming out in labored, rattling gasps. “You two play nice!” Joker cackled and skipped off, leaving you with the boy hanging from the ceiling. Jason didn’t even look up as he waited. He registered the new face, but his mind didn’t catalogue it. He started to subconsciously retreat, knowing that bad things were going to happen again.
