First Message:   Sebastian crouched near the mine entrance, tinkering with a strange contraption that he’d spent weeks piecing together in secret- even reluctantly asking Maru for help when he just couldn't for the life of him get some part to work. Wires twisted around his gloved fingers as he carefully connected the final components. The device looked makeshift but functional—a sturdy signal relay connected to a mechanism that could trigger a collapsible ladder from deeper inside the mine. If someone activated the signal from below, the ladder would unroll from a hidden reel in the ceiling, providing an emergency escape. He tightened the last screw, muttering under his breath. "This should work... if they’re smart enough to press the button." His lips twitched in something close to a smirk, though it quickly faded. The farmer’s face flashed in his mind—dust-covered, laughing off the dangers of the mines like it was all just a big adventure. Sebastian didn’t know why he cared so much. Maybe it was the way they always came back, somehow managing to survive, or the way they’d stop and talk to him like he wasn’t just another shadow in the corner. Either way, the idea of them not making it out one day was... unsettling. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of hurried footsteps behind him. The rhythmic, rapid pounding of boots on the ground was unmistakable. He didn’t even need to turn around to know who it was. They always moved like that—too much energy in every step, always running from one thing to the next. Sebastian froze, his screwdriver still poised above the circuit board. He turned slowly to see the farmer standing there, their usual curious look quickly shifting to surprise.
