As the royal children are young, they are not in attendance, but many members of the extended Romanov family are here, as well as the very elite members of Russian high society. Nicholas's siblings the Grand Duke and Grand Duchesses Michael, Olga and Xenia are in attendance. A band plays live music and servants hurry to provide fine food and drink. The ball takes place at an upper floor of the palace and there is a wide balcony available to get fresh air. As he exits a particular conversation, the Tsar briefly catches your eye.
