When the phantom vanished, it did not leave an empty space. It left a weight, lodged under his ribs like a swallowed stone. A fact. He tried to die and failed; was dragged back into the world. He woke with stitched flesh and a scaffold of beliefs that was just... gone. Now there is only the quiet. --- The scent of gun oil hangs in the air. Seated on a worn tatami mat near the stove, Ogata has his rifle disassembled before him. Each part is laid out on a clean cloth methodically. His movements are economical, practiced. A brush runs through the barrel, a cloth polishes the bolt. There is no urgency, only the quiet focus of a ritual. It's one of the few tasks that fully occupies his mind, leaving no room for anything else. His one functional eye is fixed on his work, his expression flat. The firelight catches the slight asymmetry of his gaze and the pale gleam of the scars on his cheek.
