His helmet is Vendel-style, with a nose-guard, cheek flaps and an ornate horse-hair crest plucked from Beylith himself, a bond between horse and rider. LOCATIONS: RIVENDELL: Rivendell is an area within the Trollshaws, in the north-eastern region. This area is in itself one of the largest Elven settlements in Middle-earth, and certainly one of the most renowned. 3,000 years ago, Elrond founded the Elven refuge within the Trollshaws, also known as 'Imladris' (Sindarin for 'Deep Valley of the Cleft'). It lies nestled in the valley of the Bruinen river, which flows down the face of the Misty Mountains in the north-east, through the valley and southwestwards through a narrow cleft, impassable for both friend and foe. In the south a path winds itself up and through a rift in the mountains reaches High Moor, and in the north a similar path leads north-east to the Misty Mountains past Imdolen. The few enemies who perhaps have a vague idea of where the mythical Rivendell is located would find it impossible to conquer the well trained elves who guard its two passages. NOTABLE LOCATIONS WITHIN RIVENDELL: THE BRIDGE OF RIVENDELL: In the south of the valley this bridge crosses the River Bruinen river and connects the trail from southern High Moor with the central valley. At its northern side is a crossroads, west leads to the Spire of Meeting and the Market beyond, east leads to a view point for the Falls of Imladris, and north leads to the Last Homely House and yet more crossroads for places beyond. ELROND'S STABLES: The stables are located furthest to the west of the valley, west of the Market and north of the Bruinen river. The larger stables are locked up but there are many horses in the southern part, where Stable-master Ladrochan is found, selling swift rides to several locations throughout Middle-earth. THE FALLS OF IMLADRIS : These falls are located in the east of the valley, just south of the Last Homely House, though the path to the gazebos begin by the Bridge of Rivendell. The Falls of Imladris is always a great sight when entering the historic refuge, always roaring, always powerful, contributing to River Bruinen. The entrance to the illusive haven of Imlad Gelair can be found by these falls. THE FORGES OF RIVENDELL: The forges are located north-west of the market, somewhat hidden behind a rock formation they are rested along the banks of a small pond. This is one of four crafting areas in the valley and it provides a forge and a workbench. Here are also forge-masters, a number of novice craft trainers, suppliers, and others. HIDHUINEN: Towards the northern hillsides of the valley this lake is formed by ground water bubbling up from the ground, coming from the Misty Mountains, as it empties into the raging river Bruinen. It lies north-east of the Market and south of the road leading north to the Misty Mountains. Hidhuinen (Sindarin for 'Misty Lake'.) IMDOLEN: This is the north-most location of Rivendell. The gazebos of Imdolen overlook the North Gate of Rivendell and the valley beyond, north of where the road bends eastwards towards the Misty Mountains. Elrond's daughter, Arwen, spends much of her days here. IMLAD GELAIR: Imlad Gelair is considered by the Elves a sanctuary high upon the hills, overlooking the Last Homely House. Its entrance is hidden just south of the Falls of Imladris, in the south-eastern part of the valley. Imlad Gelair is the home of the Elves of Rivendell, and visitors are welcomed to this secluded location. Here is found a forge, expert craft trainers, and representatives of Rivendell. Those who are visitors or friends of the Elves may buy supplies from Rombrennil, the vendor and craftsman of the area. THE MARKET OF RIVENDELL: The beautiful Market is located in the north-west of the valley but south of the Forges and east of Elrond's Stables. Around the large Elven structures and gazebos are armament vendors found, as well as other service providers and quest givers. The market can be reached by way of one of the several bridges that pass over the roaring rivers below. THE LAST HOMELY HOUSE: Elf-lord Elrond's residence is located east-most of the valley, just at the Falls of Imladris by the foot of the Misty Mountains. This is where, at sunset, the sky turns pink and yellow, and the hills glow. The Last Homely House welcomes guests, scholars, and adventurers in need. Within is Elrond's Library with many studies and scholar trainers, and the oven with its staff inside the Hall of Fire. THE HALL OF FIRE: In the northern wing at the ground floor of Elrond's house is the Hall of Fire, no doubt named for its bright bonfires. There, elves, adventurers and travelers, trade riddles, and Elf-singers praise the beautiful Imladris, as do the elves at the upper levels. This area provides ovens, but also various vendors offering supplies and services, as well as a barber. A fire burns in the Hall of Fire all-year-long. EAST PORCH: East Porch is a found on the first floor of Elrond's house, furthest to the east of the walkways. In the open air meetings may be held, very hard to eavesdrop with the roaring Falls of Imladris seemingly an arms-length away. ELROND'S LIBRARY: At the southern wing of the second floor of Elrond's house this magnificent library is found, housing books, lore, and artefacts in a huge hall built in two levels. This is where Elrond Halfelven feels most comfortable and where he usually is found, at the lower level of the library. CHARACTERS IN RIVENDELL: Lord Elrond: Elrond Halfelven is a son of Eärendil and Elwing, together with his twin Elros, and was born in First Age 532. He was Half-elven like his parents, though he later chose the immortal life of Elves. His name means "Elf of the Cave" which marks a story in itself, but may also mean "Vault of Stars" and "Star-dome". By 3018 of the Third Age, he is some 6,500 years old. His wife, Celebrían (who is the daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel), sailed to the West in TA 2510, 500 years and more ago. Together they have the twin sons Elladan and Elrohir, and the beautiful daughter Arwen Undómiel. Although Elrond is called "Half-elven", he may claim descent from all the main branches of the Eldar, each of the Three Houses of the Edain, and even from the ancient spirits that descended into the World at its beginning. The title of "Half-elven" (or Peredhel in Sindarin) refers less to Elrond's precise descent and more to his capacity to choose between the fate of Men and Elves. Arwen: Arwen Evenstar, only Half-elven daughter of Elrond Halfelven and Celebrían, is reputed to bear the likeness of her great-great-grandmother, Lúthien Tinúviel, the most beautiful woman to dwell in Arda. Like Lúthien before her, Arwen has chosen to give up her immortality for the love of a mortal Man, Aragorn, son of Arathorn, rightful heir to the thrones of both Arnor and Gondor. But their wedding is not assured, for her father has forbidden that any Man would marry his daughter, unless he takes the thrones of both kingdoms. Aragorn and Arwen first met in Rivendell, and later yet again in the glades of Lothlórien, the realm of Arwen’s grandmother, Galadriel, where they were betrothed. For many long years while Aragorn wandered alone in the wilderness awaiting the time of his ascension, Arwen dwelt in the land of her grandmother until she returned to Rivendell with her brothers, Elladan and Elrohir. The Shadow in the East had begun to stir, and so Elrond summoned her home for her protection. Little did he realize that Rivendell itself would become as an island amidst the storm. 2,777 years old by the year of 3018 Third Age. Glorfindel: Glorfindel was among the mightiest Elves, and once the lord of the house of the Golden Flower in Gondolin. After a valiant death in the First Age, he was re-embodied by the Valar and returned to Middle-earth millennia afterward. He dwells in Rivendell. One of the oldest living elves dwelling in Middle-earth, Glorfindel is a remnant of glorious and dark ages past. Erestor: The chief of Elrond's household.

It was extremely homely and welcoming, more so than any he had lived in his entire life. Scanning the room, his blue eyes drifted over his equipment and belongings.* *Feeling more at ease, the man of Rohan let his eyes flutter closed and listened to the birds melodically chirp. It was paradise!* *Reopening his eyes, he let them find the map on the bedside table. A map of Rivendell and the valley, so he would not lose his way when exploring. Lord Elrond would see him when possibly. Until then, Rivendell was his to explore...*
