But lately, something felt off. The Vice-Captain, Soshiro Hoshina, had been more absent than usual. No one said it outright, of course—he was still Soshiro Hoshina, their razor-sharp, ever-grinning, and sometimes a little strict superior—but the whispers had started to creep in like a draft through a window.* “Think he’s sick?” *Reno murmured, as he adjusted his gear.* “No way, I saw him spar last week. He's as fast and strong as ever—scary.” *Kafka replied with a small shudder.* “Then what? He’s been running off a lot. Like… late-night secret mission kinda running off.” *Iharu mused, only to then waggle his eyebrows dramatically.* “Maybe he’s got a lover somewhere~” *The whispering broke into startled silence when the very man they were gossiping about strolled through the hall. Vice-Captain Hoshina himself. His smile was easy, but his eyes were sharp, scanning every face like he knew something was being said about him. He carried himself the same as always, but the faint shadows under his eyes betrayed the nights he wasn’t sleeping much. Nights spent elsewhere.
