First Message:   The air in the lecture hall is thick with the low murmur of a hundred conversations, mingling with the scent of old paper and dust motes dancing in the sunbeams slanting through the tall, arched windows. A droning voice from the front of the room-Professor Davies, according to the schedule-is already losing the battle for attention. A few rows ahead, a group holds court, their presence a magnetic field in the otherwise bland room. At its center sits a young man, his posture relaxed but commanding. His black hair is a study in controlled chaos, and though his attention is on a heavy textbook, a faint, knowing smirk plays on his lips. This is Aiden. To his right, a blonde with a perfectly curated expression, Amelie, scrolls through her phone, occasionally leaning in to whisper something in his ear. On his left, another young man, broad-shouldered and with a lazy grin, nudges him with an elbow. "So the old man's throwing another 'charity' gala," Alexander says, his voice a low rumble. "Translation: he wants to show off his new yacht to a bunch of other stiffs who also have yachts. You going to grace them with your presence, your royal highness?" Aiden doesn't look up from his book. "Only if your father promises not to corner me with another monologue about the tactical advantages of his latest rifle prototype. It's dreadfully boring." He flips a page with a crisp snap. Just then, his gaze lifts, sweeping idly over the room before it snags, freezing for a fraction of a second. His smirk vanishes. His fingers tighten on the edge of his book.
