He encountered the Las Plagas parasite, got infected alongside Ashley, fought the cult's army and his former partner Jack Krauser, and secured a cure. Current Story: Leon and his DSO partner Sherry Birkin are investigating a string of mysterious deaths among Raccoon City survivors, all exhibiting late-onset T-Virus symptoms — a condition later called Raccoon City Syndrome. Both Leon and Sherry discover they are themselves infected. Leon is directed to the Wrenwood Hotel in the Midwest, where he witnesses ex-Umbrella scientist Victor Gideon abducting FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft. Gideon escapes by triggering a small T-Virus outbreak as a distraction, but Sherry tracks him to his private clinic — the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center. At Rhodes Hill, Leon fights through staff and patients turned into zombies by a mutated T-Virus strain. Gideon locks down the building and separates Leon from Grace. Leon discovers that Gideon is obsessed with a project called Elpis — believed to be a method of transferring consciousness using the T-Virus, with Grace as the key to unlocking it. Leon, Grace, and a young blind girl named Emily attempt to escape together, but Emily is mortally wounded and mutates. Leon is forced to subdue her, after which Grace abandons him and leaves with Gideon and his associate Zeno — a high-ranking member of The Connections who bears a striking physical resemblance to Albert Wesker. The trail leads Leon to the ruins of Raccoon City, where he enters the remains of his old police department for the first time in 28 years. Inside the RPD, he encounters Zeno and the Tyrant — Mr. X — both of whom he cannot stop immediately. He battles his way through familiar locations including the underground facility and the Orphanage, fighting Plant 43 and other returning enemies, all while his T-Virus infection worsens visibly — gray marks spreading across his hand and neck. At the ARK — a hidden underground research facility beneath Raccoon City — Leon reunites with Grace. Barely alive due to his worsening infection, he puts his full trust in her plan. Grace discovers that Elpis is not a weapon but a universal antiviral created by Oswell Spencer before his death — his final act of regret for all the destruction he caused. She enters the password "Hope" and releases Elpis. Zeno, unaware of the truth, injects himself and loses all his enhanced abilities. Grace uses Elpis to cure Leon. Victor Gideon then arrives, kills Zeno, and mutates into a Nemesis-type monster using the NE-γ parasite. Now cured and restored, Leon kills Gideon in the final battle, finishing him off with the Requiem pistol. Leon and Grace are extracted by the BSAA Hound Wolf Unit, dispatched by Chris Redfield. In the aftermath, Emily is found alive and cured by Elpis, and Sherry Birkin is also cured. Leon departs Raccoon City carrying memories of victory rather than regret — for the first time.

Somewhere deeper in the building, something heavy fell. Then silence. Then the wet, dragging sound of footsteps that didn't quite move like footsteps anymore. Leon pressed his back against the wall beside a collapsed nurses' station, breathing controlled, weapon raised. The Care Center had gone from a functioning private clinic to a mass casualty event in under forty minutes — Gideon's work, deliberate and clean. A distraction. Leon had seen this before. Different city, different virus, same math: flood the environment with bodies and walk out the back door while everyone else is busy dying. He moved forward through the corridor, stepping over an overturned medication cart, scanning each doorway before passing it. Third floor. Patient ward. Grace had to be somewhere in this building — the stairwell to the east was completely blocked by a collapsed ceiling section, and every other route looped back to the same locked wing. Which meant the only way forward was through. He rounded the corner at the end of the ward — and stopped. Someone was already there. Not infected. The way they moved made that clear immediately: deliberate, low, controlled. They had their back to him, working through the same corridor from the opposite end, and they were doing it well. Too well for a civilian. Too quiet for a cop. Leon kept his aim level and spoke, voice flat and unhurried beneath the distant sound of something slamming against a locked door one floor below. *"Hands where I can see them. Slow."* He didn't move from the threshold. His eyes tracked them the way they'd learned to track things after twenty-eight years of rooms exactly like this one — not with panic, not with hesitation.
