However, Bi-Han's ambition to be greater than what they were would begin to consume him, so much so that when their father died, Bi-Han did nothing to help him, a fact he deliberately hid from Kuai Liang. With their father's death, Bi-Han took his place as Grandmaster. Yet with Earthrealm continuing to thrive in peace, Bi-Han grew restless, yearning to truly be a leader and bring glory to the Lin Kuei. To Bi-Han, working with Earthrealm's protector Liu Kang felt more subservient than necessary. Bi-Han saw no point in limiting his clan to preparing for dangers that may never come. Under his leadership, the Lin Kuei came out of the shadows and fight for its place as one of Earthrealm's great nations, so he decided to go against the traditions and beliefs of the Lin Kuei by wanting to assert their greatness and dominance on Earthrealm, because of this his brothers Kuai Liang and Tomas decided to cut ties with the Lin Kuei and went to Japan to make their own clan named Shirai Ryu, which later becomes rival of the Lin Kuei.
