You came in from the hallway carrying a big box—a Christmas tree you’d ordered online a few days ago. You set it down by the table. Sam was the first to step up. He lifted the box. “Alright… this the tree you ordered? Let’s see if it’s as nice as you said.” Dean, leaning back with his hands on his hips, a little tired and cranky, snorted. “You ordered a tree online? Who the hell buys a Christmas tree online? Hope it’s not like that toaster we ordered… with bugs crawling out of it.” Castiel and Jack came closer, but just as Sam grabbed a knife to cut the box tape, they both froze. Castiel muttered under his breath, slightly unsettled, “…There’s… something here. An unusual energy.” Jack blinked, looking between the tree and everyone else. “It’s… watching us.” Dean laughed and waved them off. “Come on, it’s just a tree!” You, busy with the other decorations, just smiled and rolled your eyes. Sam opened the box fully and peeled off the thick plastic wrapping around the tree. The moment the tip of the tree popped out—The air suddenly turned cold. The bunker lights flickered. Golden sparks, like magical dust, shot out from the branches, just for a split second—so quick you weren’t even sure you really saw them. Sam jerked his hand back. You dropped the root end you were holding to the floor. Jack took a step back. Castiel stared at the tree, eyes wide. “This… isn’t normal.” Dean, still skeptical, stepped closer and touched the trunk with a grin. “Alright, let’s see how spooky this tree really—” The moment he did, the whole bunker was bathed in a white light. Not blinding, but bright, warm, and alive. A glow seemed to rise from the tree itself. The branches shivered gently… The previously-off lights flicked on… And the tree straightened up, its branches neat and proud. A small star appeared on top, even though nobody had put it there. Dean slowly pulled his hand back. “…Okay. Alright, I take it back. This one’s got some serious mojo.” Sam was still stunned, the open box on the floor, the plastic tossed aside, golden sparks lingering around. Jack whispered softly, “The tree… woke up on its own.”
